House Of The Dragon Season 2 Fan Poster Imagines Aemond’s Ascent Alongside A Massive Vhagar
A new fan-made poster for House of the Dragon season 2 features new insight into Aemond’s future and the might of his enormous dragon, Vhagar.
Aemond Targaryen is sure to play a big role in House of the Dragon season 2, and a new fan poster might prove why. Although introduced halfway through season 1, Aemond is a vital part of the coming confrontation between Rhaenyra’s Blacks and Alicent’s Greens. After claiming Vhagar as his own and subsequently killing Rhaenyra’s son, his actions have ushered in a preventable war.
Since Aemond played such a large role in ushering in the Dance of the Dragons, it makes some sense to center him in the marketing for season 2. That’s why Instagram artist 83pixelstudios developed a poster that shows off just how influential Aemond is.
In the artwork, Aemond is standing on burned and rocky ground, ominously staring back at any viewers with his sword prominently in view. Behind him, enveloped in smoke, Vhagar looms with her maw open and fire blooms in her throat. While not revealing too much, it shows just how much power sits in her enormous form, barely controlled by the stoic Aemond.
What Will Aemond’s Role Be In Season 2?
Aemond has played a massive role in the show already, but House of the Dragon season 2 should see him become even more influential. Before the season finale, he was more often a victim or a brave dragon thief at best, but the last episode saw him spark what will be a devastating war. Although he never intended it, he is the reason that Vhagar lashed out and swallowed Rhaenyra’s son, Lucerys. In the process, he assures that war will become inevitable.
His mistake may not matter to the Greens too much in season 2. If the Greens are to go to war, they will need Aemond’s support. Regardless of how little control he has over Vhagar, they will need the eldest and largest dragon on their side. They may not listen to his advice in regard to diplomacy and battle strategies, but it would be a sign of weakness if they chose not to take advantage of Vhagar’s power.
It is also possible that Aemond never revealed how flimsy his control of Vhagar is. After all, even the smallest risk of being grounded from flying will take away all the power that he has been craving for years. Aemond believes that he traded his eye for a dragon, and he is not likely to go without his dragon after paying such a heavy price. In the wars to come in House of the Dragon, Aemond is sure to play a key role.
