Theo Rabari is looking quite at home while taking over responsiblities for Gaffney Chief Dr. Charles.
The drama has been heating up on Season 11 of Chicago Med, and Dr. Theo Rabari is settling in quite nicely on the NBC nail-biter.
Manash Dayal’s bright-eyed Dr. Theo Rabari made his debut in Season 11’s “Family First,” when he set out to impress Gaffney psychiatry Chief Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) to land a spot at the Windy City hospital. Dr. Charles initially struggled with Theo’s modernized approach to mental health treatment, but soon discovered that the charming young psychiatrist had a lot to offer. Theo continues to embrace a “very different style” from Dr. Charles, but has emerged as a passionate, dedicated, and promising mentee. After the Chief’s recent hospitalization and physical therapy, he took over Dr. Charles’ responsibilities at Gaffney. Dr. Charles was eager to return to work, and after a hasty recovery, returned to his post in Season 11’s “Things Left Unsaid.”
Dr. Charles’ triumphant return was a delightful shock to many of his Gaffney colleagues, but Dr. Theo Rabari was the most surprised to welcome his boss back after starting to thrive in his new post at the E.D.
Dr. Theo Rabari and Dr. Charles teamed up on a gripping case
As soon as Dr. Charles made an appearance at the Gaffney E.D., his colleagues were thrilled to give him a big hug and hear what’s he’s been up to while recovering from his harrowing stroke.
Theo was shocked to see Dr. Charles return to his post so soon, but as Dr. Charles revealed, he’d been going stir-crazy while completing physical therapy, opting for an outpatient program instead. Looking quite cozy in his doctor’s coat and donning new facial hair and glasses, Theo seemed a little chuffed about his boss’s return, telling Dr. Charles that since he was back, he hoped they’d be able to share the power peacefully.

Dr. Charles assured Theo they’d work together swimmingly, and they soon treated a returning patient named Cody, a teen athlete with a history of competing while still concussed. Theo had previously treated the athlete and warned him not to play, but after disregarding that medical advice, Dr. Charles got the opportunity to weigh in on the concerning case after Cody began having mysterious seizures. Dr. Charles was eager to learn what was potentially missed from Cody’s first visit a few weeks prior, leading Theo to get defensive about his initial report.

While Theo felt the seizures were being caused by post-concussive syndrome, Dr. Charles thought it was psychogenic seizures due to some unknown mental issue, such as PTSD. After Dr. John Frost (Darren Barnett) confirmed Cody was emotionally horrified during his initial visit, he agreed that it seemed the medical mystery stemmed from something bigger.
Theo didn’t appreciate the deviation from his original assessment of Cody, especially as Dr. Charles’ theory began to hold more water. After uncovering childhood trauma from Cody’s time in youth football camp, Dr. Charles confirmed his theory was likely correct, getting Cody both the legal help and medical treatment he needed to move forward from the nightmarish ordeal.
Despite their original agreement to share the power with respect, Theo seemed to struggle with the case. Dr. Charles has been dubious about one day handing over the reins to Theo, and their power struggle continues, giving Chihards plenty to chew on as he continues to settle in at the Windy City unit.
