Tensions are already high going into the finale since in the prior episode, “Making Mat,” Courteney had to make the very difficult decision to cut one of her loyal cheerleaders. After several rounds of tryouts, the coach ultimately decided to cut Madonna (Arianna Davis) after the student got the yips and couldn’t pull off a single part of her routine. Madonna was designated as an alternate for the championships since there were too many members on the Buttons team.Courteney Potter (Jenn Lyon) wears a black blazer and red embroidered shirt on Stumble Episode 111.

What is the plot of the Stumble finale?
Fans who have been watching Stumble from the start know that the whole season has been building up to the college cheerleading championships in Daytona, Florida. Headltston State Junior College’s Buttons cheer squad made the cut and qualified for the championships, which they’ll compete at in the finale. Among the Buttons’ rivals are the squad at Sammy Davis Senior Jr. College, the school that Courteney used to coach at, and where she led her cheer squad to victory at numerous championships before being fired due to a leaked video of her partying with her students.

The finale, Episode 13, is aptly titled “Daytona” and the synopsis reads: “The Buttons experience the cheerleading championships, competing on cheer’s biggest stage. Can this ragtag team win Courteney another title? They first must overcome not only Sammy Davis Senior Jr. College, but a surprising foe from Courteney’s past.”

As for who the “surprising foe” is in the Stumble finale who is alluded to in the episode’s synopsis, the trailer for the finale gives a very big hint.

Katey Sagal will guest star in the Stumble finale
Katey Sagal — best known for her role as Peggy Bundy in Married… with Children and for voicing Turanga Leela on the animated series Futurama — will play Marg Hargberg, Courtney’s old coach from back when she was a cheerleader herself.

It’s been clear throughout the season that there’s no love lost between Courteney and Marg.

“I can’t believe my old coach is here,” Courteney says to the cameras in the mockumentary, as seen in the trailer for the finale, adding that Marg used to “really scream at me and say very mean things about my legs. She gave me PTSD.

“For many years, if I was able to smell her lotion, my right arm would go dead,” Courteney continued. “But Jergens is in the building, for sure, and I only got one tingle, so that’s progress. You know what? I’m a grown and very accomplished woman now. So why don’t we go say hello, huh?”

Courteney then led the cameras to her former coach, but things didn’t go as smoothly as Courteney may have hoped.

“I would recognize those weird legs anywhere,” Marg said to Courteney. “Too big to fly, too small to base.”

Wanting to show her ex-coach that she turned out to be a success story, Courteney held up her coach badge and replied, of her legs, “Well, they are just the right size to coach and get my 15th trophy.”

Marg then revealed that she’s one of the judges at the championships, causing Courteney’s right arm to go numb.

“Are you kidding me right now? Marg Hargberg had to just crawl out of some hole to come and judge my team?” Courteney later complained to the cameras. “You know what else? I like my legs. My friends like my legs… so, these legs, in fact, can, will, and must deliver the most flawless routine that that old mean [bleeped expletive] has ever seen!”

Will the Buttons deliver? The only way to find out is by tuning into the Stumble finale on Friday, March 13 at 8:30/7:30c p.m. on NBC, or by streaming it starting the next day on Peacock.
