High Potential was renewed for a new season earlier this year and fans are desperate for new episodes
One of the creative minds behind the hit crime drama has told fans what they can expect in the new season.
Following its tense multiple cliffhanger ending, fans have been eager to know what happens next in the series High Potential. In the final episode of the Disney+ hit, not only were several mysteries left unsolved, but the fate of one character was also left hanging, leaving many fans concerned .
For those unaware, High Potential is a procedural crime drama that centres on single mother Morgan who has an exceptional mind, and unconventional knack for solving crimes leads to an unusual and unstoppable partnership with a by-the-book seasoned detective.
It is actually based on a French Belgian series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (HPI). The US version was created by Drew Goddard who previously worked on shows including The Good Place, Lost and Netflix ‘s Daredevil. Goddard also penned the script for recent blockbuster sci-fi adaptation Project Hail Mary.
Deadline reports that Goddard alongside Kaitlin Olson who plays the lead role of Morgan both attended a For Your Consideration event to discuss the show’s future. While the pair obviously did not want to give away too much, they touched upon what is being considered behind the scenes.
Although the title is currently on the lookout for a new co-showrunner, after the departure of Todd Harthan, it sounds like the writers have already begun thinking about season three.

Goddard touched upon the main question that will be driving the new episodes, taking it in a slightly new direction. He said: “Season 2, for Morgan, was about [the fact that] she’s lived her whole life having these abilities that cause so much chaos and pain in her life, and she finally found a place where she is appreciated for that very thing, and she was actually enjoying it.
“So now, she’s enjoying her job and being good at it, I think the next obvious question looking forward is: okay, but now you, the person who has been speaking truth to power, are starting to be in a more powerful position, what does that mean?
“How do we explore the moral implications of that and stay true to her? I think that’s going to be the interesting question that launches us into Season 3.”
However, despite the likelihood that the new season will examine more of the long-standing plot lines, including the mystery behind what happened to Morgan’s ex-husband Roman, the procedural, murder of the week nature of the show will remain. A relief for fans who have been drawn to the murder mystery element of the series.
One of the other questions that remains for the future of High Potential is a possible romantic storyline between characters of Morgan and her partner Karadec. Olson has also touched on this in a recent interview.
She told People magazine: “I want these characters to be well-rounded. Yes, he’s a by-the-book cop, but he’s also a human being, so I wanted to make sure that you were able to see his heart, and you do with his relationship to Morgan. That was so important. Whether they’re going to end up romantically involved or not, you see that these people really do have love for each other.”
