This show isn’t just a great watch, it’s a great re-watch. I’m giving it a solid 8/10 because it gets so many things right, especially what happens when the mission ends.
What truly elevates this series is its brilliant focus on the brotherhood of Bravo Team. These guys are an unbreakable unit, and the writing is fantastic because you get to see how every operation, every sticky situation they get into, affects them. This amazing bond they have is what makes the heartbreak hit so much harder when things inevitably unfold throughout the series. They genuinely look out for each other, and that’s the heart of the show.
At the center of it all is David Boreanaz as Jason Hayes. He plays the aging Seal Team leader fantastically. He’s not just a hero running missions; he’s battling his own demons behind the scenes, dealing with the constant fallout of life on operational tour. The show does a brilliant job of showing his struggle, making him a complex and realistic character.
The rest of the cast is just as sharp and all deal with their own turmoil once returning from duty. Toni Trucks as Lisa Davis is a great character who provides that crucial backbone, working behind the scenes to keep the team safe. And the drama that kicks up when she gets involved with a team member and jeopardises their careers. That’s just top-tier entertainment and storytelling.
As a veteran, I especially appreciate that SEAL Team is deeply patriotic, honoring the men and women on the front lines of the war on terror. More importantly, it genuinely attempts to highlight the sacrifices of the family members supporting our servicemen and servicewomen, a necessary part of the story that often gets overlooked in series and movies.
Yes, that is a young me while serving in Afghanistan 2008.
New viewers, give it a few episodes to settle in and get to know the characters. Once you’re hooked on the bond of Bravo Team, you won’t look back. It’s a solid, entertaining show, and I thank CBS for delivering it.
I can’t find a season 1 trailer for you, only the latest ones. I don’t want to post that here for you because you may see spoilers and I would hate to do that for you! Go find episode one and enjoy the journey
