‘Masterchef Junior’s’ Gordon Ramsay Explains Why Kid Chefs Need ‘Discipline’
Kids are taking over the Masterchef kitchen.
A group of budding cooks between the ages of 8 and 13 will take part in a series of challenges and cook-offs to be named the first winner of Fox’s Masterchef Junior.
The Masterchef judges — chef Gordon Ramsay, restaurateur Joe Bastianich and chef Graham Elliot — will be coaching the kids and teaching them to cook like pros.
In this video, which is exclusive to The Hollywood Reporter, Ramsay explains why he thinks Masterchef Junior is something special.
“Masterchef Junior, for me, is installing discipline outside of their family traditions and giving them something precious,” Ramsay says. “There’s something quite character building when you know how to cook. For me, it’s about them staying on that path of discipline.”
And just because kids are competing doesn’t mean Ramsay will take it easy on them, based on the preview highlights in this video.
“I’m not here to wipe your bottom,” he tells one competitor. “Let’s get that right. You’re a big boy now; you can do that on your own.”
Masterchef Junior premieres at 8 p.m. Friday on Fox.
