Series with Freddie Highmore
ABC is pulling the plug on “The Good Doctor”. According to media reports, the American television station is ending the medical series with the upcoming seventh season. Freddie Highmore (31) has played the surgeon Shaun Murphy in “The Good Doctor” since 2017. The young doctor is a brilliant doctor with autism and savant syndrome (island talent), which makes it difficult for him to interact with colleagues and patients.
“The role of Dr. Shaun Murphy was a great privilege and one of the most beautiful and enriching experiences of my life,” quotes Freddie Highmore, among others, in Variety. The young star, who celebrated his breakthrough in 2005 with the title role in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” landed his next major series lead role with the hospital series shortly after the end of “Bates Motel.”
“The Good Doctor” was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But it’s time to say goodbye,” say the makers. “We are incredibly proud of the work we have done and the message we have been able to share,” the producers continued. “We look forward to giving our amazing fans, the truly exceptional Freddie Highmore, the rest of our talented actors (and friends) and the best crew in the business the series ending they all deserve.”
“The Good Doctor” was launched in the USA on September 25, 2017. The series developed into the most successful format there on Monday evenings at 10 p.m. In Germany, the drama was broadcast on free TV on VOX.
The seventh and final season of “The Good Doctor” will start on February 20, 2024 in the USA on ABC.
