‘Chicago Fire’ Says Goodbye to Another Star After Its Shocking Return

Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) lost everything in Chicago Fire’s midseason premiere: his home, his belongings, and his latest fling.

Wednesday’s episode of the firefighter drama picked up where the cliffhanger finale left off, showing Casey successfully saving himself and his new love interest Naomi (Kate Villanova) from the blaze that took over his apartment, which was later determined to be caused by arson.

Following an investigation into who started the fire, Casey was allowed to re-enter his building and try to salvage any belongings that weren’t destroyed by the flames. As he stood in the ruins of his former home, Naomi showed up with some big news.

The investigative reporter revealed that she will be traveling overseas to Zurich for her next assignment. This move would inevitably put the couple’s fling to an end and, while their breakup was amicable, it means Naomi’s character will no longer regularly appear on the show.

Kate seemed to confirm the news of her departure with an Instagram photo she shared after the episode aired. “So, so, so fun playing Naomi on [Chicago Fire] but girl has a plane to catch to Zurich!” the actress wrote alongside a selfie of herself and Jesse.

Casey told Naomi in the episode that the career opportunity was “great,” but fans of the show seem less willing to let her go. Viewers flooded the comments section of Kate’s post, expressing how upset they are to see her character leave.

“So sad to see Naomi go. You’ve done an outstanding job with her. I’m looking forward to seeing you again soon as Naomi or whatever else it is you do,” one commenter wrote.
