A Terrifying ‘Chicago Fire’ Sneak Peek Shows Casey Fighting for His Life

The devastating midseason finale of Chicago Fire left with us a lot of questions about the fates of our favorite characters. The episode’s biggest cliffhanger came when Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Naomi Graham (Kate Villanova) spent the night together—only to wake up and discover that Casey’s entire apartment was on fire. Based on a newly released sneak peek, the drama’s January premiere is going to resolve that fiery mystery and, of course, serve up even more conflict.

The upcoming installment of Chicago Fire is titled “Inside These Walls,” which is a clear reference to the fact that Casey and Naomi are trapped inside the walls of a burning building.

“Get ready for the episode that changes everything,” a voiceover says during the short clip, which shows the terrified pair struggling to escape a blaze.

A second promo video seems to take place after the apartment fire, and suggests that the rest of the Chicago crew knows what happened to their team member and his new love interest. It doesn’t give much away, but it does make it clear that Casey—whether or not he’s alive—is not currently capable of carrying out the normal functions of his job.

The sneak peek shows Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) asking Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Emily Foster (Annie Ilonzeh) to handle a community outreach activity at a local high school.

“This landed on my desk from the Office of Public Relations,” Boden said. “Usually Casey runs this, but…”

The Chief trailed off without further explanation, and Brett jumped in: “Whatever it is, we’re on it.”

Chicago Fire has been known for its cruel deaths in the past, but would the show really introduce a budding romance just to kill off one (or both) of the characters off?! It’s hard to say, but we’ll be tuning in on Wednesday at 9 p.m. EST on NBC to find out.
