‘The Good Doctor’ Renewed for Season 7: Everything We Know So Far

The hit medical drama will be back for more.

Good news, Good Doctor fans: ABC has renewed the hit medical drama for a Season 7.

The show follows the complicated relationships at St. Bonaventure Hospital with a main focus on Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) and his new wife, Lea (Paige Spara), who are about to become first-time parents as Season 6 comes to a dramatic close.

Dr. Murphy is a highly-skilled surgeon whose autism makes him awkward in social situations but also endows him with the kind of out-of-the-box thinking that leads to cutting-edge medical diagnoses and treatments. The heartfelt show frequently uses complicated medical issues to highlight themes of perseverance.

Will there be a season 7 of The Good Doctor?

Yes. The Good Doctor has been renewed for a Season 7. ABC announced the news on April 19, 2023.

What is The Good Doctor season 7 release date?

What happens in season 6 of The Good Doctor?
The Season 6 finale, called “Love’s Labor,” is set to air on May 8. According to Deadline, the episode will see Shaun and Lea “heading to the delivery room to become first-time parents.”

“…everyone from the hospital is also there, except for one significant person,” the outlet teased.

The season has revolved around Shaun and Lea’s preparation for their bundle of joy, including crib shopping and Dr. Murphy’s concerns about his upcoming role as a father. Of course, Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff), Shaun’s mentor and close friend, has assured him that he will be a great dad.

Elsewhere in the season, Dr. Glassman experiences memory impairment, leading Dr. Murphy to worry that his mentor’s brain cancer has returned. When scans reveal that Glassman is still cancer-free, the assumption is that he’ll get diagnosed with dementia instead. But as Dr. Murphy figures out, Dr. Glassman is actually experiencing the irreversible side effects of a ministroke, which created a hole in his brain.

Glassman’s health scare has left viewers to wonder: Will he have to stop his surgical and medical duties? All of this is happening amid the backdrop of the baby’s arrival since Dr. Glassman is poised to become the new baby’s honorary grandpa.

Meanwhile, the finale will reportedly feature a tragic accident involving Dr. Perez and Dr. Kalu that pulls everyone away from Lea’s delivery—including Dr. Murphy.
