Just when it seems Ghosts‘ summer hiatus will haunt us for months to come, the sitcom decides to surprise us — with a scary good musical number!
Much of the show’s first season witnessed Isaac indulging in his hatred of Alexander Hamilton and the founding fathers with petty mockery. The captain didn’t get a footnote in America’s history, much less a musical, so his pettiness is valid.
But now the joke is on Hamilton because CBS, in a brilliant bid to promote the series on Paramount Plus, has released the first track of Ghosts: The Musical with Isaac Higgintoot as the lead vocalist.

Ghosts delivered the goods to fans on social media, declaring, “It’s happening, Ghosties. ‘Ghosts: The Musical’ has arrived!”
Everything quickly escalates from there as Isaac eagerly belts out his desires for a real-life broadway show to an upbeat pop tempo. His big Hamilton moment is undeniably memorable with straight fire lines like, “I want it all. A biopic that’s starring like Jake Gyllenhal” (but spelled Gyll??? ???? (sp?) of course).

If you wonder how the ghosts could stand by and let Isaac hog the spotlight for an entire song, you thought right.
Alberta cuts in, and the song transitions to a killer solo as the jazz singer brags about her drama-filled life, “I can belt a solid B, and someone killed me. But who? You’ll have to wait and see.”
Hamilton has nothing on Alberta’s life story, that’s for sure.
Isaac naturally calls her section of the song “fluffy 1920s nonsense,” and all chaos breaks loose as the other ghosts join in.
Sas shuts down Isaac’s section on America’s founding fantasies: “Actually the Indigenous governments were the model for American federalism. Where’s the musical about that?” We love a woke king!
From there, it’s a free for all with suggestions for a scouting musical, a gilded musical with servant bells, a drug-induced hippie musical, or a musical “where no one’s wearing pants!”

As weird as that would be, Trevor deserves a Grammy for how clever this line is.
And Thorfinn, our sweet binge-watching Viking, asks the most critical question: “Why is there no musical for Thorfinn.” Lin-Manuel Miranda, you better not fail this man.
This isn’t some quick promo to accompany CBS’s fall program schedule for 2022/2023. Ghosts is making a move to the 8:30-9:00 PM timeslot on Thursdays, but it’s also making a bid to go big on Broadway.
This is a complete, feature-length song with witty lyrics, killer needle drops, and professional vocals because this comedy doesn’t do things halfway.
Shout out to CBS for greenlighting such a clever promotional ploy. Unfortunately, now we need to see the network follow through with promises for a proper Broadway musical or a musical episode at a minimum. It’s really not that much to ask.
