‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ hits the road for possible spin-off

Cast members of CBS’ ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ are teaming up with guest stars for a two-episode arc that could produce a spinoff series. ‘L.A.’ intelligence analyst Nell Jones (Renée Felice Smith, left), tech operator Eric Beale (Barrett Foa), NCIS assistant director Owen Granger (Miguel Ferrer), operations manager Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt), Red Team members Roy Haines (John Corbett), Paris Summerskill (Kim Raver) and ‘L.A.’ Special Agent G. Callen (Chris O’Donnell) meet in ‘LA’s’ operations center. In ‘Red,’ the name of the mobile unit and title of the two ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ episodes, home isn’t exactly what one might suspect; it’s a NCIS unit on wheels. Here, Hannah, Callen, Granger, Danny Gallagher (Kenneth Mitchell) and Summerskill can be seen in Red’s combined living/working environment.

Corbett’s and Raver’s characters, Roy Haines and Paris Summerskill, have a back story. Roy and Paris were once partners, but he retired after being shot during an incident in which she was mysteriously absent. He was the senior agent; now, she is.

Special Agent Claire Keats (Gillian Alexy, left), Kai tech assistant Ashe (Edwin Hodge), Hanna, Callen, Granger and Special Agent Dave Flynn (Scott Grimes) gather for a group meal in the Red team’s quarters.

Meals are not all the team shares. Granger looks none too happy to be sharing sleeping quarters with ‘L.A.’ agents Hanna and Callen.

‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ regulars O’Donnell, Eric Christian Olsen (who plays ‘L.A.’ Detective Marty Deeks), Ruah and executive producer Shane Brennan (second from right) talk during a break in filming. The guest stars have been getting a hand from the veterans. Ruah remembers that her cast received similar treatment when they were guests on ‘NCIS’ four years ago; it would be “non-karmic” not to do the same.

O’Donnell, left, episode director Tony Wharmby, Raver and Brennan prepare for a scene on set. O’Donnell and Raver’s characters form a bond that could develop into something more if ‘Red’ becomes a series.
