Home Improvement Star Patricia Richardson Is Not Interested In A Reboot Of The Show
If a Home Improvement reboot happens, you can count Patricia Richardson out.
Home Improvement ran from 1991-1999 on ABC. It followed Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor (Tim Allen), his wife Jill (Patricia Richardson), and their three sons: Brad (Zachery Ty Bryan), Randy (Jonathan Taylor Thomas), and Mark (Taran Noah Smith).
Allen has since gone on to have another successful sitcom, Last Man Standing, which ran for nine seasons and ended in 2021. He even revisited his Home Improvement character in an episode of the show.
Allen said in 2023 that he’s considered the idea of a Home Improvement reboot. He claimed he talked to his onscreen sons and they all discussed what a rebooted version of the show would look like.
“One of the conversations we’ve had recently is how weird it would be if Home Improvement would be about the kids’ kids,” Allen said. “Like if all of them had children, and I’m a grandparent. Home Re-Improvement or something like that. It’s come up.”
While many fans would love to see a Home Improvement reboot, Richardson is not on board with the idea. During a recent interview on the Back to the Best podcast, she explained several reasons why she doesn’t see a reboot working out.
Patricia Richardson Says She Never Agreed To A Reboot, Spin-Off, Or Reunion
For starters, Richardson said she’s just flat-out not interested in a reboot. So, if one ever did come to fruition, it wouldn’t include Jill.
She told the podcast:
“It was so weird, I would hear [Tim Allen] was coming out publicly and saying this stuff about everyone was on board to do a Home Improvement reunion, but he never asked me and he never asked Jonathan [Taylor Thomas].”
She further clarified:
“…I’m not involved in any series with Jill and I’ve also never even been asked to do another Home Improvement reunion thing, but I would not want to.”
Additionally, Richardson says the reboot would lack another one of its fan-favorite characters, the Taylors’ neighbor, Wilson. Earl Hindman, who played Wilson, died in 2003.

Richardson also said she has difficulty believing her onscreen sons would be on board for a reunion.
“Taran [Noah Smith] hasn’t acted since he left the show; he’s not an actor anymore,” she said. “And Jonathan [Taylor Thomas is] not really interested in acting. He wants to direct and write.“
She also addressed her eldest onscreen son’s recent legal issues, saying, “I mean, Zach is now a felon.”
Zachery Ty Bryan first ran into legal trouble in October 2020 following an apparent argument with his then-girlfriend. USA Today reported that Bryan pled guilty to two charges while six others were dismissed.
Bryan “was sentenced to three years of bench probation with multiple conditions, including partaking in a batterer intervention program.”
Then, in July 2023, Bryan was arrested for domestic assault in Eugene, Oregon. He pled guilty to a felony assault charge in that case.
Bryan was arrested again on February 17, 2024. He was arrested for an alleged DUI following a traffic collision in La Quinta, California. This was Bryan’s fourth DUI charge.
USA Today reports Bryan is facing multiple charges related to the incident, and is scheduled to appear in court on April 23.
