Betty White – the ‘golden girl’ of Hollywood at one time

The 97-year-old actress has a career spanning 80 years, with many lifetime works.

Betty White just turned 97. She is considered a pioneer in television, one of the few women working both in front and behind the camera. Betty White began her television career in 1939, three months after graduating from high school. Along with her modeling career, Betty White gradually had relationships and received a role at the Bliss Hayden Little theater.
When World War II broke out, Betty White stopped acting and volunteered for the army, helping move troops across California.

After the war, Betty White returned to look for work at the studio but was rejected for being “not photogenic”. Betty then decided to find work at radio stations, where appearance was not emphasized. Betty White’s first job after the war was reading advertising voices, making noises…

Trying with many shows, Betty finally got her own radio show, called “The Betty White Show”. By 1949, Betty began to have a place in television shows.

Betty White was briefly married to pilot Dick Barker in 1945. Two years later, she married Lane Allen, a Hollywood talent manager, but the marriage also ended in 1949. The third time, She married MC Allen Ludden in 1963. The couple had no children together and Betty White raised Allen Ludden’s three children when he died of cancer in 1981.

During her 80-year career, Betty White received eight Emmy awards in many categories, three Screen Actors Guild awards and a Grammy award. She has a star on the Walk of Fame and was honored in the Television Hall of Fame.
