Ghosts Bosses Preview Season 4’s Halloween and Christmas Episodes, New Spirits (With Animal Twist!)

As announced during San Diego Comic-Con this past Saturday, Mary Holland (The Big Door Prize, Veep) will recur during Season 4 as the Puritan ghost who dragged Isaac into the dirt in the Season 3 finale. But co-showrunners Joe Wiseman and Joe Port revealed to TVLine that there will also be some other fresh (and furry?) otherworldly additions.

Now that Pete has the ability to leave the Woodstone premises, “he’s going to be out and about, and he’s going to be coming into contact with a lot of ghosts, one of whom he is going to bring back to the mansion,” Port tells TVLine’s Keisha Hatchett in the above Comic-Con interview.

Plus, in a fun twist, “we’re going to meet an animal ghost for the first time,” Wiseman shares, while Port adds that this “very small animal” is “going to become sort of a ghost pet.”

The hit CBS comedy will also once again air its annual Halloween episode (which will have the tough task of topping last season’s “Halloween 3: The Guest Who Wouldn’t Leave”), as well as an hourlong Christmas special.

“Halloween episodes are very special to us because it’s a show about ghosts, so we feel like we always have to go big on Halloween, and this year, we are not going to disappoint,” Wiseman promises. “Halloween is going to be influenced by a new addition to the house, Patience.”

Meanwhile, the Christmas spirit will finally bring Jay’s parents to Woodstone, “which we’re very excited about. That’s long overdue,” Wiseman notes.

Elsewhere in the interview, the showrunners hint at some new mythology reveals that will test how the ghost rules work, and tackle the question of whether we’ll get answers next season about Hetty’s power and Sas’ death. (One is more likely than the other.)
