Jennifer Aniston opens up about the tragic loss of Friends co-star Matthew Perry. Best known for playing Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom Friends, Perry passed away on October 28, 2023 when he drowned in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home. He was 54 years old.
Now, Aniston speaks on the loss of her Friends co-star. Speaking with Variety, Aniston was asked how she would want the world to remember Perry. She noted that she texted Perry on the morning of his death, saying that “he was not in pain” but rather “he was happy.” Check out the full quote from Aniston below:

As he said he’d love to be remembered. He was happy. He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy — that’s all I know. I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy. I want people to know he was really healthy, and getting healthy. He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard. He really was dealt a tough one. I miss him early. We all do. Boy, he made us laugh really hard.

How Perry’s Other Friends Co-Stars Are Remembering The Actor
Since Perry’s heartbreaking death this fall, Aniston has been vocal in her condolences to her late Friends co-star. Following his passing, the actress joined fellow Friends leads Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer in releasing a joint statement about Perry’s death that honored their “moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.” Weeks later, Aniston opened up in a long, heartfelt post on Instagram in which she reminisced on Perry’s infectious ability to make others laugh.

Since his passing, other Friends stars have spoken out about Perry’s death. This includes LeBlanc, who said it was “an honor to share the stage” with Perry throughout the years. Hank Azaria chimed in to call Perry a “genius.” Schwimmer also spoke out about Perry’s death, calling him “generous” and saying that he “had a heart” in a tribute post.
The words of his Friends co-stars turned off-screen friends help to immortalize Perry after his death. Perry’s voice will also live on through his words in his 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir, in which he talks about his struggles with addiction. Though these addiction struggles are part of his legacy, it is good to hear from Aniston that he was “really healthy” and “getting healthy” as he worked in his lifelong struggle to get clean and to encourage others to do the same.
