Serena Williams’ Restaurant Experience In Paris Would Never Happen In The US

It was a star-studded version of the Olympics this year. The closing ceremony saw yet another costly stunt from Tom Cruise. Never a dull moment and a major success as Paris proved to be great hosts.

However, there were some hiccups behind the scenes. Serena Williams took exception to her treatment at a particular restaurant. Williams was apparently denied access, despite the fact that the establishment was said to be empty and with available tables.

Let’s take a closer look at what Serena had to say, and how the restaurant reacted to her claims. Surely, in the US, this would not have been an issue.

Serena Williams Claims She Was Denied Access To The Paris Restaurant The Peninsula, Despite It Being Empty

Over the last few weeks, Paris, France has been the place to be thanks to the Olympic Games. The best athletes and even celebrities flocked to the games this year, getting a glimpse of the Olympics, along with what Paris has to offer. According to Serena Williams, a fine dining experience isn’t one of them… Williams tweeted on X about being denied entry into a Michelin-starred restaurant.

The fact that Serena was with her kids, and that the restaurant was apparently empty certainly didn’t help her cause. The restaurant did issue a statement in return, stating they were fully booked.

“When [Serena] came there were only two tables available and they had been reserved by clients of the hotel,” Mannevy told the outlet. “My colleague didn’t recognize her and feels terrible, but he told her what he would have told any other client, which is to wait downstairs in the bar for a table to become available. That was absolutely nothing personal.”

Serena Williams Tends To Be Generous With The Restaurants She Visits In The US

Serena Williams Fashion Week

You really never know when Serena Williams is going to drop by. Back in October of 2022, she made a very unlikely pit-stop at the breakfast spot, HomeGrown Wichita at Naftzger Park in Kansas. Serena was generous as always, sharing the establishment on her social media. She didn’t demand any special treatment either, keeping to herself. In fact, the waiter admits he only realized it was Williams when she had left.

“I wasn’t catching on to exactly who it was,” Stice said. “She was already out the door, and apparently, a couple of the customers had told their other servers that when she was walking out that that was Serena Williams. It didn’t register in my head that that’s who it was until they said it, and I was like, ‘Oh my goodness,’ and it threw me off because I wasn’t expecting to ever serve Serena Williams.”

For those that are curious, Williams ordered the ironman scramble, sweet potato pancakes and a mimosa rising. Sounds pretty darn good.
