As historical drama Bridgerton season three, part two premiers on Netflix, its showrunner Jess Brownell spoke about what to expect from the next season. Though Brownell did not reveal anything about the plot, she said her team was doing its best to put together another successful outing as soon as possible.
Bridgerton season three, part two is set to take the story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington forward, living up to the hype around the co-lead pair. Played by actors Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan, the show released its final set of four episodes of season 3 on Netflix on June 13. Amid speculations about which Bridgerton will take the story forward, showrunner Jess Brownell stated that season 4 will arrive after two years.
During the UK premiere of Bridgerton, Brownell told The Hollywood Reporter that the team was trying to shorten the time of wait, though it will take sometime to produce the next season. “We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language… And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace, we’re trying to speed up but somewhere in that range,” she said.
Giving titbits about what lies ahead for the historical drama, Brownell shared that the team was excited about the story ahead. When asked about who is set to lead the next season, she shared, “I have almost slipped up a couple of times so keep asking, and maybe I’ll slip up.”
Brownell added, “I’m really excited about what we’re writing. We’re towards the end with the writers room season, with the scripts. And I feel like it’s some of my best work and my writers room’s best work. We’ve just really gelled our collaboration, and we’re firing on all cylinders so I can’t wait for fans to see what we have.”
This comes, as fans are already busy pondering upon which Bridgerton sibling will get their own installment next. Would it be Benedict or Eloise? “I think it’s hard to say. There’s so many different ships… I think one of the ships is going to be very, very happy,” Brownell hinted.
Brownell also expressed gratitude towards the audience appreciating the show. “I am so proud of how this season has performed and so grateful to the fans for tuning in. I think every season, the momentum builds more and more, and I think we have a debt to pay to the actors in seasons one and two for helping build enthusiasm. Then, I think Nicola and Luke have helped build a lot of enthusiasm,” she said.
Bridgerton is Shondaland’s first scripted show for Netflix. The romance drama is set in early 1800s in an alternative London Regency era.
