Yellowstone star Kevin Costner’s box-office flop confirms streaming release

A UK streaming date hasn’t been announced yet, but it can be purchased or rented from digital retailers like Amazon and iTunes.

The movie charts the four years of the Civil War in the late 1800s, exploring the conflict through the lens of the families, friends and foes who are trying to discover what it means to be in the United States of America.
The first film in the series, which was released in June, was met with disappointing critical reviews that described it as a “three-hour prologue” to future movies, as well as “dull, frustrating and sleep-inducing”.

Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 received an underwhelming 49% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which likely didn’t help its fortunes at the box office. The film only made $24 million against a budget that was reported to be $50-100 million.

Costner, who financed a portion of the planned four-film series with his own money, recently responded to the film’s disappointing response by insisting he was “happy” with how it turned out.
“I’ve lived with movies and what happens to them on their opening weekend,” the actor told Entertainment Weekly.

“If we put so much pressure on that, we’re bound to be disappointed. I’m really happy that Horizon looks like what it’s supposed to look like, and that’s the way it’ll look the rest of its life. And that’s really important to me in this process.”

Last month, the Western’s sequel, which was set to be released in US cinemas today (August 16), was delayed after the first movie’s disappointing premiere. A new release date has yet to be announced.
