Marcel’s Chicago Med Exit Is Much More Devastating Following The Season 9 Finale

Chicago Med is losing another doctor when season 10 premieres — Dr. Crockett Marcel, which is a shame after the events of the season 9 finale. The NBC medical drama TV series, created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, has lost many cast members over the course of its (soon-to-be) 10-season run, including most of its original stars (only three remain — S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin, Oliver Platt as Dr. Daniel Charles, and Marlyne Barrett as Maggie Lockwood). Now, fans will have to say goodbye to Marcel since Dominic Rains is leaving Chicago Med ahead of the season 10 premiere.

Chicago Med season 10 premieres on Wednesday, September 25, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

It’s unclear why Rains is exiting Chicago Med, but he’s not expected to return as a series regular for season 10. So, Marcel won’t appear during the premiere, meaning his absence will have to be explained without him on the screen. Even though Rains wasn’t an original Chicago Med cast member, he was an integral part of the show, and it will be quite difficult to accept Marcel’s exit when the time comes.

Marcel’s Patient Died During The Chicago Med Season 9 Finale

Marcel’s Grief About Losing His Daughter Resurfaced

Dominic Rains as Dr. Crockett Marcel in Chicago Med season 9 episode 8.

Dr. Crockett Marcel learned some shocking news during the Chicago Med season 9 finale — one of his former young patients died and the boy’s father later died by suicide. Marcel was obviously rocked by the two deaths, mostly because the devastating situation reminded him of his own daughter’s death. The doctor’s feelings of grief that he buried so long ago rose to the surface. Marcel knew exactly what the young boy’s father was feeling after losing him, and the emotion overwhelmed him.

The premiere of Chicago Med season 10 will clarify why Dominic Rains is no longer on the show, but without him there, Marcel cannot close out his story on his own terms or obtain full closure regarding his character arc.

Dominic Rains’ character started to open up about his past trauma with Maggie Lockwood later in the Chicago Med season 9 finale. He explained that he never grieved his daughter’s death properly. As a result, the episode ends with the audience (and Maggie) wondering if Marcel will take some time off from work to sort through his feelings. Evidently, Marcel is taking a permanent vacation from Chicago Med.

Chicago Med Can’t Give Marcel Full Closure Because Of His Exit

Dominic Rains Is Leaving Chicago Med Ahead Of Season 10

Dominic Rains Chicago Med

Chicago Med season 9 didn’t end with Marcel receiving any sort of closure regarding his grief. Instead, the finale ended on a bit of a cliffhanger with Marcel still in a place of despair. Marcel wasn’t sure what came next for him, and unfortunately, he will never be able to explain his next moves to the audience himself. Of course, the premiere of Chicago Med season 10 will clarify why Dominic Rains is no longer on the show, but without him there, Marcel cannot close out his story on his own terms or obtain full closure regarding his character arc.
