BREAKING NEWS: Virgin River fans recommend top shows to watch during season 6 wait, including one by the same author

While Virgin River enthusiasts eagerly await the show’s sixth season, expected to land on Netflix by year’s end, fans have compiled a list of similar series to tide them over during the potentially long wait until November or December.

There’s no shortage of alternatives for viewers keen to dive into something new, with several recommendations coming directly from the Virgin River fanbase.

One such suggestion is a show created by Robyn Carr, the author behind the original Virgin River book series.

The good news for Netflix subscribers is that many of these recommended shows are readily available on the same platform, ensuring Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) devotees can easily find their next binge-worthy series.

A recent convert to Virgin River took to Reddit to seek advice after becoming “addicted” to the drama-filled soap opera-esque show, despite typically steering clear of such genres, reports the Express.

They shared their experience: “I have a love hate relationship with this show, I never usually watch soap opera type shows with this insane drama but somehow I’ve become addicted.”

Continuing, they explained their situation: “I’ve flown through the seasons while I’m crocheting a massive blanket thats going to take forever to finish and am currently on season 5 episode 10. Any recommendations for what I should watch next?”

Another viewer was quick to offer suggestions: “Hart of Dixie, Sweet Magnolias, Heartland, My Life with the Walter Boys.”

For those in the UK, Hart of Dixie is accessible via ITVX, while the other mentioned titles are all streaming on Netflix.

One user hailed Heartland as “the best family show ever!!!”

Another chimed in with a recommendation for Sullivan’s Crossing, which is inspired by another book series from author Robyn.

The show was a joint venture between Canadian network CTV and The CW, and UK viewers can stream it on YouTube TV.

Virgin River fans cautioned the original poster about Lauren Hammersley, who plays Charmaine, appearing in the series, but reassured them that she’s “not annoying”, addressing a frequent grievance among Virgin River followers.

Others suggested the NBC family drama This Is Us, available on Disney+ in the UK.

A different user added: “Fire Country – small town in CA. There’s some danger, heroes, and lots of relationship drama.”

To which another responded: “EXCELLENT show. I just finished season 1, some similarity to VR with the scenery, and Bode (Max Thieriot) is gorgeous!!!”

For aficionados of quaint town narratives, there’s a wealth to explore, but the question remains whether any can match the fervour of Jack and Mel’s love story.
