Urkel is back!
Jaleel White has officially reprised his role as Steve Urkel from Family Matters in the new animated film, Urkel Saves Santa: The Movie.
Produced by Warner Bros., the film’s descriptor is as follows: “The holiday season is here, and brilliant but accident-prone super genius Steve Urkel has only one mission — to make the holidays the best they can be for everyone! However, things are off to a not so merry start after he ruins a celebration at his local shopping mall and humiliates the department store Santa. Hoping to make things right, Steve invents a device that helps people spread holiday cheer but it only manages to make things worse. Using his big brain and even bigger heart, it’s up to Steve to help the city rediscover the holiday spirit.”
“I’m showing everybody I got what it takes; It’s not the holiday spirit without making mistakes,” sings Urkel in the two-minute trailer. Of course, he also revives his signature tagline: “Did I do that?”
The Urkel Saves Santa film was one of six from Warner Bros. set to premiere on HBO Max, but was briefly shelved when the streamer transitioned to Max. It is currently available on demand.
White isn’t the only Family Matters cast member bringing some yuletide cheer to the holiday season. Kellie Shanygne Williams and JoMarie Payton reunited for A Family Matters Christmas, but the film has nothing to do with the ’90s sitcom of the same name. The movie focuses around three siblings in a newly-blended family who get to experience life in each other’s shoes.
Williams, who played Payton’s fictional daughter on the sitcom, expressed, “Working with JoMarie again is such a pleasure, and I could not wait to rekindle the spark and warmth that millions have come to love.” A Family Matters Christmas is also now available on demand.
