The Good Doctor’ Cast Shares Emotional Farewell Ahead of Series Finale: “We’ve Created a Family

As *The Good Doctor* approaches its series finale, the cast has released a heartfelt video message expressing their gratitude to fans for their unwavering support over the show’s seven seasons on ABC.

Freddie Highmore, who stars as Dr. Shaun Murphy, reflected on the journey in his message to fans, according to Entertainment Weekly. “This has been an incredible seven seasons,” he said. “We’ve always wanted this show to be more than just a television series. If in some small way we’ve been able to challenge stereotypes surrounding autism, that is what I am most proud of.”

Highmore’s character, Dr. Shaun Murphy, is a surgeon with autism and savant syndrome who begins his career at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. The series tracks his growth as a doctor and his personal journey as he becomes a husband and father.

Chuku Modu, who joined the cast as a regular in Season 6, praised the show’s positive message, stating that it “means so much” to viewers.

The cast also expressed their sadness about no longer working together after the show concludes. Fiona Gubelmann shared her feelings, saying, “What I’m going to miss the most when this series ends is The Good Doctor family. I love them so much.”

Highmore echoed this sentiment, saying, “We’ve created a family. It will be very odd to say goodbye to everybody and know that we will never be together in that same space in the same way.”

Christina Chang also took a moment to thank the fans directly, saying, “To all The Good Doctor fans out there, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.”

The decision to end the series was announced earlier this year. Co-showrunner and executive producer Liz Friedman explained that the choice was made by ABC, who told the team “it was time to end it.”

“We are very grateful that they gave us a timely notice, allowing us to decide how to conclude the series and craft a great ending for Shaun Murphy’s story,” Friedman said. She added, “I feel like I could tell stories about Shaun forever. As long as the amazing Freddie Highmore was interested in playing him, I was happy to write for him.” Despite the ending, Friedman assured fans that the finale would be “really good.”
