Chuku Modu Returns to ‘The Good Doctor’ as a Series Regular

Chuku Modu, an original cast member of The Good Doctor, has been promoted to series regular for the upcoming seventh season of the ABC medical drama, where he will continue his role as Dr. Jared Kalu.

Modu initially came back as a recurring character midway through last season but has now been elevated to a full-time role for the new season, which is currently in production.

Eventually, Kalu left that role to become a concierge doctor, leading him back to San Jose’s St. Bonaventure Hospital, where he chose to stay.

Modu’s promotion comes following the departure of fellow original cast member Will Harper, who is running for Senate, and Brandon Larracuente, who left the show in April after one season.

The Good Doctor, produced by ABC Signature and Sony Pictures Television, features Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman, Fiona Gubelmann as Dr. Morgan Reznick, Will Yun Lee as Dr. Alex Park, Christina Chang as Dr. Audrey Lim, Paige Spara as Lea Dilallo, Bria Samoné Henderson as Dr. Jordan Allen, and Noah Galvin as Dr. Asher Wolke. David Shore and Liz Friedman serve as executive producers and co-showrunners, with additional executive producers including Daniel Dae Kim, Erin Gunn, Thomas L. Moran, David Hoselton, Peter Blake, Jessica Grasl, Garrett Lerner, Mike Listo, Freddie Highmore, Shawn Williamson, David Kim, and Sebastian Lee.

“We’re thrilled to have Chuku back as a series regular and are excited for the audience to see what Dr. Kalu has been up to since his departure from St. Bon’s,” said Friedman when Modu’s return was announced.

Since his time on The Good Doctor, Modu has appeared in the final two seasons of the CW’s The 100—the latter as a series regular—and had a role in Captain Marvel. Recently, he has been featured in Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s Amazon series The Peripheral and starred in the film The Origin.
