The medical drama Doctor Odyssey is setting sail in the fall of 2024, and it’s already accomplishing something that neither Grey’s Anatomy nor Chicago Med intentionally did during their first (or subsequent) seasons. In Ryan Murphy’s new TV show, Joshua Jackson stars as Dr. Max Bankman, a luxury cruise ship’s new on-board doctor. Max is joined byPhillipa Soo’s Nurse Avery Morgan and Sean Teale’s Nurse Tristan Silva, making up his medical team, while Don Johnson stars as Captain Robert Massey in Doctor Odyssey. So, it’s safe to say that the series’ main cast is impressive.
Joshua Jackson’s next TV series Doctor Odyssey premieres on Thursday, September 26, at 9 pm ET on ABC.
The cast of Doctor Odyssey contains a Grammy Award winner, a Tony-nominated star, and an Emmy-nominated actress, and that’s just Phillipa Soo. Don Johnson is a legend in his own right, being awarded a Golden Globe and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, while Joshua Jackson is a TV legend, known for his iconic roles in Dawson’s Creek, Fringe, and Dr. Death. Sean Teale is no slouch either, as many will recognize him from shows such as Reignand The Gifted. Although Doctor Odyssey went all out with its main cast, its list of guest stars is even more impressive.
Doctor Odyssey Trailer Teases A String Of Impressive Guest Stars
John Stamos, Chord Overstreet, Kelsea Ballerini, & More Guest Star In The New ABC Series
The trailer for Ryan Murphy’s new TV series Doctor Odyssey shows a glimpse at what and who fans can expect to see in the medical drama. From John Stamos (who previously starred in two renowned medical series — General Hospital and ER) to Shania Twain (one of the best-selling music artists of all time), the ABC show wastes no time incorporating famous guest stars. Most of the following celebrities, including Stamos, Chord Overstreet, and Kelsea Ballerini, can be seen in the Doctor Odyssey trailer.
Dr. Odyssey‘s Special Guest Stars
John Stamos
Cheyenne Jackson
Shania Twain
Gina Gershon
Kelsea Ballerini
Chord Overstreet
Laura Harrier
Stephanie Suganami
Justin Jedlica
By including impressive guest stars, Doctor Odyssey already has a leg up over other medical procedural shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Chicago Med. Neither series utilized renowned actors, singers, and other celebrities while marketing their respective first seasons. Of course, Grey’s Anatomy has featured numerous famous guest stars throughout its 20-plus season run, but most of them appeared in the show before gaining recognition (like Phillipa Soo’s Hamilton costar Leslie Odom Jr.).
How Doctor Odyssey’s Guest Stars Can Help It Succeed
Big Names Draw In Big Crowds
Even though Doctor Odyssey hasn’t premiered yet (as of the writing of this article), it’s almost guaranteed to succeed because of its roster of guest stars. With big names like John Stamos and Shania Twain, more people will be inclined to watch Doctor Odyssey just to see them. These celebrities can draw more eyes to the ABC medical drama, especially if they promote the show.
The additional marketing will undoubtedly boost Doctor Odyssey‘s ratings. Plus, not every announced guest star will appear in the pilot episode. As a result, people will have to continue tuning in to see some of their favorite actors and/or singers in the medical drama. It evidently pays off to have Ryan Murphy’s pull in Hollywood as many are already talking about Doctor Odyssey a week before its premiere because of the show’s ability to get impressive guest stars.
