The medical drama Doctor Odyssey is setting sail in the fall of 2024, and it’s already accomplishing something that neither Grey’s Anatomy nor Chicago Med intentionally did during their first (or subsequent) seasons. In Ryan Murphy’s new TV show, Joshua Jackson stars as Dr. Max Bankman, a luxury cruise ship’s new on-board doctor. Max is joined byPhillipa Soo’s Nurse Avery Morgan and Sean Teale’s Nurse Tristan Silva, making up his medical team, while Don Johnson stars as Captain Robert Massey in Doctor Odyssey. So, it’s safe to say that the series’ main cast is impressive.

The cast of Doctor Odyssey contains a Grammy Award winner, a Tony-nominated star, and an Emmy-nominated actress, and that’s just Phillipa Soo. Don Johnson is a legend in his own right, being awarded a Golden Globe and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, while Joshua Jackson is a TV legend, known for his iconic roles in Dawson’s Creek, Fringe, and Dr. Death. Neither series utilized renowned actors, singers, and other celebrities while marketing their respective first seasons. Of course, Grey’s Anatomy has featured numerous famous guest stars throughout its 20-plus season run, but most of them appeared in the show before gaining recognition (like Phillipa Soo’s Hamilton costar Leslie Odom Jr.).

Even though Doctor Odyssey hasn’t premiered yet (as of the writing of this article), it’s almost guaranteed to succeed because of its roster of guest stars. These celebrities can draw more eyes to the ABC medical drama, especially if they promote the show.
The additional marketing will undoubtedly boost Doctor Odyssey‘s ratings. Plus, not every announced guest star will appear in the pilot episode. As a result, people will have to continue tuning in to see some of their favorite actors and/or singers in the medical drama.
