Eric Christian Olsen Shares Disappointing Update on Marty Deeks’ Future in NCIS Franchise

NCIS: Los Angeles star Eric Christian Olsen has offered a sobering update regarding the future of his character, Marty Deeks, within the CBS franchise. After a successful run spanning 14 seasons, the beloved spinoff came to an end last year, leaving fans eager to see their favorite characters return. However, Olsen doesn’t seem optimistic about a reprisal anytime soon.

In a recent interview with TVLine, Olsen reflected on his time with the NCIS family, expressing that while he misses his co-stars, he doesn’t envision a role for Deeks in the near future. He noted, “I actively miss Todd [LL Cool J’s real name], and I was texting with Renee [Felice Smith] this morning. I see [sister-in-law] Daniela [Ruah] all the time,” highlighting his continued connections with the cast.NCIS: LA': See the Cast in Their First & Last Seasons (PHOTOS)

Despite the flagship NCIS series continuing into its 22nd season, the landscape has shifted significantly. All spin-offs have been canceled, with CBS opting to focus on a new prequel centered around a younger Leroy Gibbs, played by Austin Stowell. This shift complicates the potential for guest appearances by characters like Deeks, as the new series will likely concentrate on its own storylines.

Olsen candidly admitted that he doesn’t find himself wanting to play Deeks again “not so much,” which suggests a desire to move forward creatively. Nevertheless, he remains a prominent figure in the television industry, having taken on an executive producer role in the reboot of Matlock, starring Kathy Bates. He has even entertained the idea of appearing on-screen in the new series, sharing that he often imagines himself in “really good, dramatic or funny scenes” due to the quality of the writing.NCIS: LA' Series Finale: How It Ends for Callen, Hanna, Kensi, Deeks

While fans may have to wait for a reunion, whether through Deeks or a new character, Olsen’s departure from NCIS doesn’t diminish his presence in the industry. Outside of work, he enjoys a fulfilling personal life with his wife, Sarah Wright, and their three children, suggesting that while he may not be returning to NCIS, he has plenty to keep him busy
