Emotions were high as the cast of NCIS: LA wrapped production after 14 remarkable seasons. On their final day of filming, the stars reflected on the bittersweet experience of saying goodbye to their characters and each other.
Chris O’Donnell, who plays Callen, expressed the surreal feeling of the moment, stating, “The 14-year thing… it doesn’t seem real. Saying goodbye was more emotional than I anticipated. When they said, ‘It’s a series wrap on Chris,’ I had trouble speaking to our crew. There was so much love in the room; it was an amazing run, and I’m just so grateful.”
LL Cool J, known for his role as Sam Hanna, echoed this sentiment, describing the farewell as “bittersweet,” akin to a graduation. He emphasized the gratitude felt by the cast, knowing they created something meaningful that audiences will cherish for years to come. “There’s a certain level of melancholy because you won’t be working with them closely daily, but it’s for the greater good,” he said, optimistic about what lies ahead.
Eric Christian Olsen, who portrays Deeks, admitted he cried on the last day and even delivered an impromptu speech, reflecting on the journey they shared. “We got to tell 324 stories. My parents called it ‘coming home on Sundays,’” he shared, expressing both gratitude and sadness.
Daniela Ruah highlighted LL Cool J’s impactful speech, where he reassured the cast that their friendships would endure beyond the show. “Just because this is over doesn’t mean we’re not friends,” she quoted him, emphasizing the lasting bonds forged over 14 years.
Medalion Rahimi, who plays Fatima Namazi, described the day as filled with mixed emotions, comparing it to the excitement and heaviness of the last day of school. “I cried, I think, five times,” she revealed, but noted the day was ultimately uplifting.
The cast also took keepsakes from the set as reminders of their time together. LL Cool J collected several of Sam Hanna’s bulletproof vests, while Olsen sported one of his character’s jackets. O’Donnell shared he took pieces of clothing and his chair, while Ruah preserved some of Kensi’s outfits.
As for the highly anticipated series finale, airing on May 21, the cast promises surprises and a satisfying conclusion. Gerald McRaney, who plays Kilbride, praised the writers for crafting a beautiful ending. “They’ve always been good, and this one has an ending,” he assured fans.
Caleb Castille teased that viewers can expect the familiar elements of the show with some added surprises, ensuring fans will be “very satisfied.” Rahimi noted that while there might be a few loose threads, the overall conclusion will feel definitive, allowing the audience to envision the future of her character.
With heartfelt reflections and a promise of a beautiful send-off, the NCIS: LA team is ready to say goodbye to a series that has become a significant part of their lives and the lives of its fans.
