Who’s Gone? The Unexpected Departure in Chicago Med’s Season 10 Opener

Chicago Med opened season 10 with some big changes that included one doctor losing their job! Who got fired? Here’s what happened!

As the new season opened, the hospital was already down a doctor as Crockett had left for Boston. Ripley was still suspected of beating up Pawel and he and Hana were on a break while poor Charles had broken up with Liliana.

Gaffney Medical was dealing with how another hospital was about to close down, so they’d be getting their patients. That included a young girl with her pediatrician, Dr. John Frost (Darren Barnet). The team then got word of a boat crash at Navy Pier, meaning a mass casualty event that caused chaos. It was so wild that even Goodwin had to pitch in as a nurse.

Amid all this, we were introduced to the new head of the emergency department, Dr. Caitlin Lenox (Sarah Ramos). A former military doctor, she wanted to whip things into shape and, from the start, clashed with Archer. She proved her skills by creating a makeshift treatment area in the waiting room.

The team had to handle some different patients with a mother upset her husband abandoned their son in the crash and Ripley realizing the boat driver had a sight issue that caused the crash. Goodwin was helping Dr. Hudgins (Conor Perkins) as he tried to shock a patient to life. When the patient flatlined, Hudgins just put the defibrillator down and walked away, leaving Goodwin to revive him herself.

What happened to Hudgins on Chicago Med?

Lenox found Hudgins in the locker room, shaken from what happened. He apologized for his actions as this was all too much for him and wouldn’t let it happen again. Lenox said she understood as it was a normal reaction. “Here’s the thing. We can’t be normal.” She said doctors had to be more than that, ready to handle anything and fired Hudgins on the spot.

Archer was obviously not pleased to lose a good doctor, with Lenox defending herself as Goodwin signed off on this and accused Archer of being upset he wasn’t the boss. Lenox snapped that with the other hospital closing, things were going to get even tougher on everyone and they needed to be at their best.

While Hudgins wasn’t a full cast member, he was a dependable face on the series, aiding the other doctors. He had his skills and was seen as dependable, so for him to be fired for being overwhelmed by a huge disaster was a stunning turn. It shows Lenox isn’t interested in the status quo and wants the doctors to be tougher, which can cause trouble down the line.

So now Gaffney Medical is down two doctors as season 10 begins and that may be the start of more changes for the drama this year.
