Bridgerton Season 4: The Burning Question – Will Benedict and Sophie Find True Love?

With production on Bridgerton season 4 now underway, the show’s new lead stars tease what lies ahead for their characters, Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek. After the successful debut of the third season earlier in 2024, the hit Netflix series will continue on to explore another love story centered around one of the titular siblings. Luke Thompson’s Benedict will step into the spotlight for the upcoming episodes. Bridgerton season 4 will explore the class-divided love story of the second-eldest sibling and Sophie, the illegitimate daughter of an earl, who is now working as a lady’s maid.

Thompson and Yerin Ha, the actor who will play Sophie, are already getting viewers excited for their season. In a recent behind the scenes video for Shondaland (via TV Insider), they hinted at what audiences may expect from the next installment. According to Thompson, the upcoming season will be a mix of “fairytale and reality,” explaining:

I think the main thing we can expect is that it’s a really nice mix of fairytale and reality, it’s a fairy tale love story, I guess, but it’s also got the Bridgerton element of trying to sort of tether it to some sort of reality as well and see how that pans out.

Picking up from her onscreen love interest, Ha teased the struggles the couple will face, which seem rooted in their different positions in the world. She said:

You can expect this emotional tug of war, or this push and pull between what their heart desires and, I guess, what society desires for them.

What This Means For Bridgerton Season 4

This Will Be Bridgerton’s Cinderella

Benedict Bridgerton is a character known for his free-spirited personality, who often navigates the strict social norms of his era with charm and wit. However, as Bridgerton season 4 will demonstrate, even the most carefree people can be affected by the expectations and norms of Regency-era London society, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. This time, the focus will be on Benedict’s difficulty making commitments, a theme that has been subtly explored throughout his previous appearances on the show.

In previous seasons, Benedict had been involved with multiple suitors and, for a time, was deeply interested in art. Whether any of these storylines will factor into season 4 remains to be seen.

At the heart of this internal struggle is his relationship with Sophie, who, in classic Bridgerton style, comes from a very different world. Sophie was born out of wedlock, and because of that, she has faced many struggles. When she meets Benedict, she is a lady’s maid, but he does not know this. Their difference in social classes will play a significant role in shaping their relationship, introducing a Cinderella-like narrative to the Bridgerton world. What differentiates Benedict and Sophie’s romance from others in the series is the intricate “tug of war” dynamic between their personal desires and societal constraints.

Our Take On Bridgerton’s Upcoming Story

It Will Present A New Side Of Bridgerton

Sophie’s character brings a fresh perspective to Bridgerton, and her personal history allows the series to delve deeper into themes of class, identity, and belonging. It has been hinted that Sophie will be a strong, independent character who will challenge the status quo and is not afraid to stand her ground despite the limitations imposed on her by society.

Bridgerton season 4 seems to promise a new, multi-layered plot with a captivating and emotionally charged love story, this time focusing on Benedict and Sophie, giving the audience a new narrative that keeps the show fresh while staying true to its romantic roots. There will likely be plenty of humor, tension, and heartfelt moments as the season unfolds. This can only be seen as a good thing for the romance series, which hopes to continue on to cover the other Bridgerton books in author Julia Quinn’s series.
