Young Sheldon Season 7 May Finally Break A Disappointing TBBT Prequel Tradition

A brand new Young Sheldon season 7 set image suggests that The Big Bang Theory prequel will finally break an ongoing disappointing tradition.
Young Sheldon season 7 may be looking to break a disappointing The Big Bang Theory prequel trend. The Coopers will be saying goodbye at the end of the upcoming Young Sheldon year, and that comes with a lot of expectations, especially considering the sheer number of plot lines that the spin-off needs to finish. However, Young Sheldon can’t simply dive into the lingering arcs that are waiting for any kind of resolution, otherwise, its storytelling risks being overwhelming. Given this, it’s safe to expect that in between heavy episodes, it will also have more lighthearted fares to balance out its swan song for the Coopers.
Admittedly, delivering a satisfying send-off for Sheldon and his family is quite tricky to accomplish. Young Sheldon will end with a shortened final year with only 14 episodes to cap off its narrative compared to its usual 22. This means that The Big Bang Theory prequel writers need to be meticulous when crafting how the Coopers’ individual and group storylines will play out in their remaining time on the air. Still, it seems like they are determined to offer some kind of variety as part of its farewell year, with Young Sheldon season 7 potentially doing something that it has never been able to do in its run thus far.

Young Sheldon Season 7 Set Image Features Christmas Decorations
While CBS has yet to release any official promotional material for the series’ upcoming year, set images from Young Sheldon season 7 offer a sneak peek at what to expect when the Coopers return for the final time on the small screen. That includes a snap of the set all decorated for Christmas. Subsequently, a different video revealed that Sheldon’s family home is also decorated with various lights for the holiday. These strongly suggest that Young Sheldon season 7 will include a Christmas-themed episode for the first time — just before the spin-off wraps up its run on CBS.
Young Sheldon May Finally Get A Christmas Episode (& Why It Hasn’t Happened Earlier)
Unlike The Big Bang Theory, which featured several Christmas-themed episodes, Young Sheldon has never had one. This is odd for two reasons. Firstly, the prequel is a family series. Granted that it was conceived as Sheldon’s origins story, but at its core, it’s about the Cooper family, and Christmas is a great way to give them something to be festive about. Secondly, Mary is a devout born-again Christian. If anything she should be going all out for Christmas — something that Sheldon actually talked about in The Big Bang Theory.

However, Young Sheldon doesn’t do any themed episodes. It even barely does birthdays for its main family members. There’s no official reason for this, but perhaps it has something to do with wanting to keep the timeline as vague as possible. As a prequel show, The Big Bang Theory canon limits the prequel’s storytelling, and not giving any definitive era markers allows it to stretch out its years to keep it on the air for as long as possible.
