BBC’s Ghosts: The 5 Most Heartbreaking Deaths and 5 That Will Make You Laugh

Ghosts produced and created by the BBC in the UK, is getting an adaptation for American audiences on CBS. Originally formulated by the cast and crew of Horrible Histories, the show tracks a young couple who move into a large haunted house. After a hit to the head, Alison can actually communicate with the ghosts.

These ghosts aren’t like the typical ones found in a horror film though. They are actually all very friendly and completely wacky. Each of them of course carries with them a story of how their death happened. While some of them are incredibly funny, others are actually extremely heart breaking.

Heartbreaking: Kitty

Kitty is quite a naïve character. She’s always looking for the best in people, which is incredibly sweet. But she can also be taken advantage of. Her death hasn’t actually been explored in great detail as of yet and is likely being saved for season 3 of the show.

But, there’s been a number of hints pointing to the fact that this could be quite a sad one. Kitty has noted on a number of occasions that her sister was known for playing tricks on her. It may well be that it was her sister that killed her, although Kitty hasn’t really come to terms with that.

Hilarious: Julian Fawcett MP

Julian Fawcett is a typical British politician. Usually making sure the title of MP goes after his name, Julian was part of the Conservative party in the UK and clearly a fan of Thatcher. His death is quite an alarming one.

Unfortunately, for Fawcett he was quite literally caught with his trousers down. The ghosts have to constantly wear what they had one when they died. Fawcett is missing a pair of pants, suggesting he was in the middle of something when he died.

Heartbreaking: Thomas Thorne

While there’s a lot of horrible stories when it comes to how ghosts are created in other horror series, for Ghosts some of these stories really do bring a tear to the eye. The poet Thomas Thorne is a perfect example of this. He has always lived a life of love.

In his dying days he was trying to win the hand of a beautiful young woman. He even got into a duel for her honor, which ultimately lead to his death. He was told that she never loved him, but it was all a ploy from his cousin, who to add insult to injury went on to marry her!

Hilarious: The Plague Victims

A great number of haunted houses in Britain will likely be based on the terrible plague that swept the nation. However, Ghosts managed to take this grim topic and portray a slightly funnier side of it. It was always a mystery as to how a small, rural village managed to die of the disease.

It turns out, that one of the plague victims that lives in the house had actually visited London. He got the plague and then brought it back to everyone else. Needless to say he feels a bit guilty about it and there was a whole, hilarious episode where a court case ensued!

Heartbreaking: Lady Fanny Button

The Grey Lady is another common trope with horror films. There’s usually an older woman in drab clothes, who haunts the halls of various mansions. For Ghosts the grey lady is Fanny Button, who had quite the unfortunate death.

The Lady was actually murdered by her husband and his lover. For her it was particularly shocking to find out that her husbands lover was another man, which was something she frowned upon due to the time period (although has since changed her views on).

Hilarious: Pat Butcher

Pat Butcher was an experienced scout leader that put all of his enthusiasm and energy into teaching his kids a variety of useful skills. One dark day though everything went wrong, when one student did the unthinkable.

In quite a funny turn of events he shot an arrow through Butcher’s neck. Despite this he carried on as normal, even trying to drive the bus away before crashing it into a tree. What’s more funny is that he still has that arrow through his neck! It’s quite the stupid death.
