The Rookie is ABC’s police procedural drama following John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), a newly divorced man in his 40s who, after inadvertently helping the police stop a bank robbery, moves from Pennsylvania to Los Angeles, California, to pursue career as a police officer at the Los Angeles Police Department. The series, which was created by Alexi Hawley, is based on the true story of William Norcross, a real-life officer with the Los Angeles Police Department who moved to Los Angeles in 2015 and joined the department in his mid-40s. Rounding out the cast is Tru Valentino as Aaron Thorsen, Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune, Eric Winter as Tim Bradford, Melissa O’Neill as Lucy Chen, Lisseth Chavez as Celina Juarez, Richard T. Jones as Wade Grey, Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers, Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper and Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez.
Last season ended on a major cliffhanger, with Aaron Thorsen getting shot in the back and nearly dying. Although Thorsen made it out of the ordeal alive, the squad might not be so lucky this time around. Promos for the upcoming episode, titled “Punch Card,” suggest that the team will find themselves in danger once again, and one of their own will get shot. Who dies on The Rookie in Season 6? Although we don’t for sure, the promo for “Punch Card,” which airs on May 7, seems to imply that one or more officers will get shot.
In the clip, the LAPD squad is dealing with a “full out gang war” at a local hospital. Lights are flashing and an alarm is blaring as Nolan and the others try to apprehend the suspects. At one point, a gun shot goes off and a male voice can be heard shouting: “Officers down. Repeat, officers down!” The camera then pans to Bailey, who looks concerned and shocked. Could she be reacting to her husband getting shot? The couple were seemingly already at the hospital when violence broke out, and John is seen heading into a hallway on his own just before the shot goes off.
While it’s unlikely that the main character will be killed off, Nolan could still be severely injured. Angela Lopez, Nyla Harper, Lucy Chen, Wade Grey and Celina Juarez are all at the hospital as well, so the “officer down” could be any of them. The official synopsis for the episode reads: “After a mafia-related mass casualty, the team is tasked to keep the peace at the hospital; Lucy and Celina work together to investigate the suspects behind the attack; Tim and Aaron embark on a metro ops mission.”
The Rookie has already been renewed for a Season 7, but it is unclear which cast members will be returning. There are also only three more episodes of the abbreviated Season 6, so if the show is planning on killing off a main character, it will likely happen in these next few weeks. Viewers will just have to tune in to see who survives the high-stakes episode.
