Netflix Makes History: Bridgerton’s Season 4 Introduces Pansexual Lead

Benedict will be the first LGBT+ protagonist in the show, set in early 19th-century London.

In the new season, Benedict, who reveals himself to be pansexual, becomes involved in a romance with Sophie, the illegitimate daughter of a count who works as a maid. The storyline will follow a plot similar to the Cinderella story, with encounters and misunderstandings at masquerade balls.

In the announcement video released by Netflix, a costume is delivered to Luke Thompson as he holds the script for the new season. The reference to the masquerade ball suggests that the production will maintain the fairy tale essence, adapting it to the sophisticated world of ‘Bridgerton.’ This approach promises to bring a new dynamic to the series, exploring issues of identity and romance. The production of the fourth season is scheduled to begin in September of this year, with the premiere expected in 2026. With eight seasons planned, the series is produced by Jess Brownell, Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Tom Verica, and Chris Van Dusen.
