Why I’m Glad Maya Didn’t Join Grey’s Anatomy After Station 19’s Cancellation

The end of Station 19 left fans speculating whether Maya Bishop might transition to Grey’s Anatomy. However, I’m thrilled that this didn’t happen, as it paved the way for Danielle Savre to star in her new show, Found.

Maya’s relationship with Carina DeLuca could have easily facilitated her return to Grey’s Anatomy, especially given Carina’s continued presence in the medical drama. But Maya’s character was always central to Station 19. Her journey—from her friendship with Andy to her ambitions of becoming the youngest female Seattle Fire Chief—defined her role in the show. Season 7 showcased Maya’s significant growth, and I doubt Grey’s Anatomy could have offered her the same depth of character development.Station 19: Lesbian Characters & Storylines | Autostraddle

Savre’s move to Found represents an exciting opportunity. Announced shortly after Station 19 concluded, her character is set to engage with nearly everyone in the ensemble, promising a more prominent role than a return to Grey’s Anatomy could provide. Creator Nkechi Okoro Carroll has highlighted the “beautiful, fun energy” Savre brings, suggesting her character may be complex, potentially even ambiguous. This kind of multifaceted role allows Savre to showcase her talents in ways that might not have been possible in Grey’s Anatomy.

Additionally, with Station 19 concluding, Grey’s Anatomy has already incorporated characters from the firefighting series. Ben Warren’s return to medicine and the possibility of Carina making appearances mean that Grey’s Anatomy can still connect to the Station 19 universe without needing Maya.Has 'Station 19' Lost the Plot on Maya and Carina? | Autostraddle

With its expansive cast, Grey’s Anatomy often struggles to give adequate screen time to every character, making it unlikely that Maya’s story would have been fully explored. In contrast, Found offers Savre the chance to develop her character in a more meaningful way, potentially leading to a stronger role as the series progresses.

Ultimately, I believe that Savre’s journey in Found will allow her to shine far brighter than a return to Grey’s Anatomy ever could.
