A group of squatters previously barricaded themselves inside Gordon Ramsay’s vacant York & Albany pub near Regent’s Park.
Gordon Ramsay’s York & Albany restaurant was taken over by squatters last week. However, the celebrity chef has since served legal papers to the self-styled ‘autonomous’ activists.
New images of the masked squatters occupying Gordon Ramsay’s gastropub have been shared. The snapshots follow the announcement that they’d allegedly received orders to vacate the premises on Tuesday (16 April).
Last week, members of the Camden Art Cafe claimed legal occupation of the 57-year-old’s restaurant, the York & Albany. The London restaurant, situated near Regent’s Park, is a Grade II listed building which previously served as a coaching inn in the 1820s.
However, on Tuesday, occupants revealed they’d been “served papers” by the celebrity chef and had been asked to leave the premises. Taking to social media, members wrote: “We are sad to announce Camden Art Collective have left the building after being served papers yesterday.
“We wish those left in the building the best of luck in their endeavors. We hope to be a part of the community again soon.” (sic)
On Wednesday (17 April) photographs from outside the pub showed that some squatters are still making Gordon’s building their own. In one snap, a topless man could be seen making a phone call whilst concealing his identity with a plastic bag and another showed two people locking up an entrance.
“Professional” squatters were spotted outside of Gordon Ramsay’s Grade II-listed gastropub, next to Regent’s Park, on Wednesday. One shoeless occupant was snapped attaching a lock to an entrance gate whilst another looked on.
The self-styled ‘Camden Art Cafe’ revealed on Tuesday that it had been served papers. This meant they could not run the soup kitchen they had planned.
Donors have previously dropped off supplies at the eatery – including 10kg of potatoes – which Ramsay began leasing in 2008. The squatters claimed to have stormed the building due to “many longstanding local businesses” being evicted from their units.
In a new snap, one of the squatters could be seen using a mobile phone while enjoying a cup of coffee outside. They wore an Aldi bag on their head to disguise their identity.
Not everyone is impressed by the squatters’ stance. One X user, formerly known as Twitter, took to the micro-blogging platform and wrote: “Bunch of spoiled little losers… try getting a real job and contribute to society… so sick of these ‘people’!”
