Tracker Season 2: How Did Russell Shaw Return? Jensen Ackles’ Episode 2 Comeback Explained

Jensen Ackles’ Russell Shaw made his long-awaited return in the recently-aired episode 2 of Tracker season 2.

The fan-favorite guest character made his first appearance near the end of the first season. He was introduced as Colton’s estranged older brother who is believed to have a role in their father’s mysterious death.

Russell Shaw Returns in Tracker Season 2 Episode 2

In the recently-aired episode 2 of Tracker season 2 titled “Ontological Shock,” Colter was investigating the disappearance of Scott Palmer, a missing father who was tracking an unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP). However, he also went missing.

As a result, Reenie recruits Russell to look for his brother and return him to safety.

Russell eventually found his brother in a Department of Defense black site. Colter was being captived by a mysterious officer. After Russell broke Colter out, the bantering between the siblings continued from the first season.

Colter was adamant that the UAP claims might not be true. However, Russell argued for its existence based on their father’s influence.

The brothers found Plamer in a UAP site and they confronted the same officer that held Colter captived earlier. After they saved Palmer and brought him back to his family, they escaped through a vintage Chevrolet car.

Colter confronted Russell about Dory’s “secret box of Dad’s stuff.” However, Russell dismissed it. Colter wondered why their sister did not mention the box’s existence.

The episode ended with the brothers going on their separate ways with Russell driving the Chevrolet car to an unknown location.

Will We See More of Russell Shaw in Tracker Season 2
So far, there are no officiall plans yet for Ackles to return in another episode for the rest of Tracker season 2, but they intend to have him recur continuously in the series depending on his schedule availability.

Considering that season 2 is expected to be in production until early next year, there is still a chance for them to bring back Russell for another storyline.

However, in an interview, star Justin Harley teased that the second season will explore more of the family and their tumultous relationships and dynamic.

“The interesting thing about that is Colter felt a certain way about his mother and his father, and he really didn’t have anyone to talk to about it. Now, he kind of has someone that he might be able to bounce things off of, right?” he said.

“Granted, Russell’s not particularly tight with their mom, although we did reveal that he does talk to their sister every once in a while — more than Colter does, perhaps. You’ll start to realize, ‘Well, maybe Colter is the most estranged one of the whole bunch. He’s constantly on the road, constantly running from his past, chasing other things.'”

For now, fans should stay tune for the rest of season 2 to find out whether we will see Russell in the series again soon.
