Hoping for More Real-Life Characters in Ghosts Season 4

As we look forward to Ghosts Season 4, I’m excited about the possibility of the show reviving its clever use of real-life historical figures. While Sam and Jay are enjoyable leads, the ghosts are truly the heart of the series. Adapted from the British version, Ghosts follows the couple as they move into an inherited mansion, where Sam gains the ability to see its diverse ghostly residents after a near-death experience.

The first three seasons have cleverly woven in a rich tapestry of characters from various historical periods, making the show a unique blend of a hangout sitcom and a history lesson. With ghosts ranging from an Indigenous American from the 1500s to a Prohibition-era flapper, the series thrives on its eclectic ensemble.

The Impact of Real-Life Characters

Ghosts has previously featured historical figures like Benjamin Franklin and Al Capone, showcasing how this approach enhances the narrative. Franklin appeared in a couple of episodes during Season 2, but it was Al Capone’s role that truly highlighted the potential for such storytelling. His character arc, which subverted expectations and revealed his infatuation with a resident singer, was a standout moment.

Given the show’s premise, integrating real-life characters doesn’t feel forced. Unlike typical sitcoms that might rely on dreams or special episodes to introduce historical figures, Ghosts naturally allows for their inclusion through its premise. The characters span centuries, making it easy to imagine encounters with historical figures relevant to the mansion’s past.

Future Possibilities for Historical Cameos

As for who I’d love to see in Season 4, there are plenty of candidates. At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, star Utkarsh Ambudkar mentioned wanting Lin-Manuel Miranda to appear as Hamilton, which would fit well with Isaac’s story.

I’d also love to see figures from the Beat Generation like Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, who could have crossed paths with the ‘60s flower child, Flower. Additionally, a cameo by Janis Joplin would be fascinating, especially given her influence on Flower’s character. Hetty might even have connections to influential figures like J.P. Morgan or J.D. Rockefeller from her past.

With the potential for so many compelling interactions, I hope Ghosts Season 4 embraces this unique opportunity to blend history with humor.
