‘Blue Bloods’ Star Tom Selleck Shared a Poem with Co-Stars on Final Day of Filming

“Blue Bloods” has officially wrapped filming, leaving the cast and crew to reflect on the end of an era. True to his steadfast character, NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan, Tom Selleck marked the occasion with poignant words.

In an interview with TV Insider, Selleck shared insights about his last scene and how he chose to commemorate it. “My final scene was ironically a family dinner, which was also the first scene I shot 15 years ago,” he recalled. “I won’t spoil everything about the last episode, but that family dinner brought the Reagan family together. Erin’s daughter Nicky (Sami Gayle) and Jack (Tony Terraciano), Danny’s older son, were both there. We all agreed to close the set during the dinner and keep that moment private. Most of the cast had four more days of shooting, but that was my farewell.”

As filming progressed, the reality of his departure set in. “We were shooting for hours, and then suddenly they said, ‘Well, that was the last shot,’” he said. “I always wanted to recite the poem ‘Love Is Not All’ by Edna St. Vincent Millay. There were tears and a lot of hugs. Donnie was really emotional and didn’t say much, while Bridget shared some thoughts. Vanessa [Ray] was particularly moved by the experience.”

It’s no surprise that emotions ran high; “Blue Bloods” has been one of the longest-running police procedurals on primetime television. Since its premiere in 2010, fans have eagerly gathered on Friday nights to follow the Reagan family’s journey. Viewers will have the chance to enjoy the show one last time with eight new episodes premiering, but after that, it’s truly a wrap. Fortunately, fans can still catch all 14 seasons available for streaming on Paramount+.
