Rose McIver will step behind the camera to direct an episode of Ghosts in the upcoming season, as she shared during the show’s panel at New York Comic Con 2024.
One of the great aspects of long-running television series is the opportunity for cast members to take on directing roles. Having spent countless hours on set, the actors are often well-versed in the nuances of production. At the panel, McIver, who portrays Samantha, expressed her excitement about her new role: “I’m very excited to put on a little old-fashioned beret… I’ll take up smoking, scream at my cast, have a megaphone—it’s going to be great!”
On a more serious note, McIver discussed her motivations for taking on directing duties. “I’ve been fortunate to work in episodic television for a long time, and I love the way it works. It’s chaos, especially when the show is airing while you’re filming. Aside from the creativity, it involves a lot of people management skills and diplomacy. Maybe I’m trying to turn into Samantha a little, just to have another pot on the stove. It’s something that has always interested me, and I love the process of it all.”
As Ghosts continues on CBS, it would be wonderful to see more cast members take on directing roles, much like what has happened in other successful series such as Criminal Minds.
