The Rookie fans left fuming as ABC teases ‘misleading’ Feds crossover
The Nathan Fillion-led cop drama recently spun off with an FBI offshoot starring Niecy Nash.
Nathan Fillion’s announcement of another The Rookie “crossover” has been met with a frustrated response from fans of the ABC crime franchise.
In his latest social media clip, he confirmed he’ll be making an appearance on the new spin-off, The Rookie: Feds, as his iconic officer John Nolan.
“I am only one rookie,” he said in a new video. “But together… together we are the Rookie Universe.”
Feds cast members such as Niecy Nash-Betts and Felix Solis gathered around him, but the promise of another cameo wasn’t enough to get fans excited.
Many viewers complained the episode shouldn’t be billed as a crossover, and compared the episode unfavourably to shows such as NCIS which recently featured multiple characters crossing over.
Twitter user @TaysDanvers fumed: “So no crossover, only Nolan on Feds….”
@Valthehbic wrote: “I love The Rookie. But not gonna lie, I am not enjoying the crossovers with The Rookie Feds.
“Can I just watch The Rookie without having to be forced to watch this cringe crossover event?”
Alex Reynolds said: “I love #TheRookie. I watch the Rookie Feds. It’s slooooowly growing on me. But calling [them] crossovers is a stretch.”
“It’s mostly cameos of the main Rookie cast and I remember that they once finished a story that started on the Rookie.”
“Y’all ain’t tricking us lol,” @tcanada991 added. “This isn’t a crossover, it’s Nolan on the Feds episode and that’s it.”
@x_yowie tweeted: “We all know that this is just gonna be a cameo from Nathan on Feds come on now.
“When y’all do these crossovers between OG and Feds it’s basically a cameo, I think y’all could learn from NCIS, One Chicago and Law & Order crossovers. Sorry, I’m just not falling for this.”
And @bonlrisch said: “What fans expect when they see “crossover” is all or majority of the characters appearing on each other’s show with a seamless storyline between the episodes. See One Chicago or NCIS’s three-way crossover.” (sic)
The crossover event will begin with a new episode of The Rookie, entitled Going Under, on Tuesday.
A synopsis reads: “Officer Lucy Chen (played by Melissa O’Neil) goes undercover to infiltrate an illegal firearm operation.
“And Detective Harper (Mekia Cox) and Officer John Nolan work together to solve a mystery involving severed limbs found around the city.”
A new promo has also confirmed John’s appearance in the Feds episode right after, in which he’ll need to race against the clock to help the team rescue agent Laura Stensen (Britt Robertson).
