In a magical twist of events, the Bridgerton and Harry Potter worlds are colliding in a way we truly never saw coming.
Fans of the hit Netflix drama know that the series is renewed for season 4, focusing on the love story of Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (a.k.a. Sophie Beckett in the Bridgerton book series), played by newcomer Yerin Ha. Along with the news of the show officially going into production for the latest installment, folks learned additional news about actors joining the cast.
As new characters are being introduced to the series, Entertainment Weekly announced that actress Katie Leung is set to portray Sophie’s stepmother, Lady Araminta Gun. Harry Potter fans recognized Katie after the reveal, and it was for a very good reason. As X (formerly Twitter) user @MeredithLoftus pointed out on September 16, Katie is well-known for portraying Cho Chang throughout the series, beginning with the 2005 film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
“Are we all ignoring the fact that Katie Leung is Araminta Gun because I AM SCREAMING 😆,” the comment read, alongside then-and-now photos of the actress.

Upon learning about the surprise Harry Potter and Bridgerton crossover, it didn’t long for other fans of both franchises to go wild about it on social media.
“I squealed when I read her name on the cast list!” one person wrote on X. “Omg this is insane!!!” another declared. “The way I ran to google Katie Leung to make sure she was Cho Chang,” a different follower added.
Viewers and readers of the Harry Potter franchise remember Cho Chang was Harry’s crush throughout the fourth installment of the series. While he tried to ask her to the Yule Ball amid him competing in the Triwizard Tournament, she turned him down as she already said yes to his classmate (and competitor) Cedric Diggory (played by Robert Pattinson).
As far as Katie’s feelings on joining the world of Bridgerton, she couldn’t be more excited by the prospect.
“Buzzin’ for me and my girls 💁🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside photos of Michelle Mao (playing Rosamund Li) and Isabella Wei (playing Posy Li).
Well, we’re certainly thrilled about this piece of casting news, and we can’t wait to see the magic she brings to the role!
