Chicago Wednesdays have been a mainstay at NBC for more than a decade, but with no new episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med on October 30, 2024 — right after fans got one to step closer to identifying Chief Sharon Goodwin’s stalker — viewers understandably have questions as to what happened to the One Chicago franchise and when it will be back.
Why are Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med not on tonight?
Though NBC hasn’t confirmed the reason the three One Chicago shows — Fire, P.D., and Med — didn’t air new episodes on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, it’s common for the One Chicago franchise to take its first break a month into the new season. Given that the new seasons of Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med premiered on September 25 their break on October 30 would fit right in that timeline.
As for why there are breaks in the first place, many networks, like NBC, set their schedules for primetime shows ahead of time in order to make sure there are enough episodes to air for nine months from the beginning of primetime season in September to the end in May. There are also often sports or political events take over primetime show’s time slots and delay them for a week — such as when the MLB World Series aired at the same time on FOX as 9-1-1: Lone Star and Rescue: HI-Surf and pushed new episodes to the following week.
