Tracker star teases new jaded character and Colter’s lone-wolf status in season 2

Justin Hartley has hinted that Tracker Season 2’s big new character may change Colter’s “lone wolf” status in Season 2!

Tracker may have Colter Shaw undergoing a significant challenge that could question his “lone wolf” status!

Tracker has been one of CBS’s biggest new hits since it debuted in early 2024. It follows Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley), who grew up under a survivalist father and now hires himself out as a freelance tracker of anything from missing persons to objects. The show has been a major success and Season 2 heightens the action.

The white whale case continues in Tracker season 2
Season 2 began with Colter facing his “white whale case,” which has long haunted him. In 2014, a young woman named Gina Picket was kidnapped from a shopping mall. It was one of Colter’s first cases and while he was convinced that Frank (Ryan Dorsey) was responsible, he couldn’t prove it or find Gina.

Every year on the anniversary of the vanishing, Colter pays Frank a less-than-friendly visit to find out more with Frank refusing to confess to anything. The premiere ended by revealing that Colter is romantically involved with Gina’s sister Camille (Florina Lima).

While the series hasn’t played on this since Justin Hartley told TV Line that this case would span the first half of Season 2 with a big casting scoop to boot.

“There’s a character that comes in (played by Brent Sexton) that has his own white whale case and a completely different approach. He’s a retired cop, older, a little more jaded, a little more affected by the way things are, and has an entirely different view on human beings and why they do what they do.” (He and Colter) kind of converge, start to deal with something else… and then you start to see that they have a choice: It’s either gonna to be working together, or it’s gonna be me against you.”

That’s a big turn for Colter that could change his way of doing things.

Can Colter continue as a lone wolf?
Colter pushes himself as a “lone wolf” type doing cases on his own. In truth, he has a sound support system with handler Velma (Abby McEnany), lawyer Reenier (Fiona Renee) and hacker Bobby (Eric Graise). That’s without mentioning the occasional aid from his estranged brother Russell (Jensen Ackles).

Thus, as much as he prefers to go into a case by himself, Colter may be realizing that going at it alone is tricky and that, as Hartley puts it, he may be reconsidering “the whole lone-wolf thing,” realizing that “maybe a separate set of eyes, from a different generation,” could help him get to the bottom of Gina’s disappearance.

However it works out, Colter is in for some tough cases ahead in Season 2, and between finally solving this long-haunting case and his usual antics, the “lone wolf” may decide to expand his pack as Tracker continues.
