Blue Bloods Star Addresses Potential Spinoff and Possible Uncancelation at CBS

Blue Bloods will be ending when the final episode of Season 14 airs in December. However, Abigail Hawk, who has a recurring role in the series as Detective Abigail Bake, hopes that the police procedural will continue with a spinoff.

There was talk of a spin-off happening,” Hawk told Hello Magazine. “But if it did happen, so immediately after our series ends, it would have to be not involving the Reagan’s or the NYPD at all. It would have to be set in LA, or we follow a different family.” She also talked about the existing show continuing for a 15th season. “If you had asked me this question during the summer, before these episodes were about to air, my answer would have been, ‘there’s a pinprick of hope’.

I think once these episodes start airing, CBS executives may realize that they have made a colossal error and perhaps rethink down the line, so I think it remains possible,” Hawk added. The actor also talked about whether the show could be shopped to a different network. “I don’t think there’s a possibility of it going to another network,” she said. “I know that there’s been a bit of chatter about that, but I don’t think that that’s a viable option given the talks that we’ve had with the cast and the producers and things like that.”

Blue Bloods Has Been A Success For CBS

But hope floats, and I think it’s necessary to have something to hang on to, and we would all certainly drop everything and make that happen,” Hawk continued, refusing to rule out the possibility of the show getting revived at some point. “At the end of the day, CBS can do whatever they want, but I hope they realize not only how commercially viable Blue Bloods is, but how beloved it is, and the staying power that it has, because family is universal and there are more stories to be told.”

Created by Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess, Blue Bloods premiered on CBS in Sep. 2010. The story follows the fictional Reagan family who has a long history of working in law enforcement. The series boasts a strong ensemble cast, which includes Tom Selleck as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan, Bridget Moynahan as Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan, Will Estes as police officer Jamie Reagan, and Len Cariou as Henry Reagan, the family patriarch and retired police commissioner.

Selleck recently talked about the final season of Blue Bloods, saying he was on set during the final day of filming even though he was not involved. “I watched the last scenes with Bridget [Moynahan] and Steve [Schirripa] and then Donnie and Marisa [Ramirez]” he said. “It was hard, but I didn’t want to just stay home. I wanted to be there, and I felt an obligation to share the experience.”

New episodes of Blue Bloods Season 14 air Fridays on CBS on Oct. 18.
