With Ghosts back for its fourth season, fans are eager to see how Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) navigates the aftermath of his abduction by Patience and the fallout from his breakup with Nigel (John Hartman). In a recent interview at NYCC, Jones shared insights about Isaac’s journey of self-discovery this season and how he copes with his emotions.
Jones acknowledged that Isaac isn’t the most selfless spirit at Woodstone, and part of his character arc involves learning to treat others better. He humorously pointed out that he even started with a compliment to Sam (Rose McIver) about her sweater! “Right now, he’s processing the sadness of losing this relationship in the only way he knows how, which is focusing on how it affects him,” Jones explained.
“He’s desperate and feels the weight of atoning for his past mistakes in both life and afterlife. After being taken into the dirt and then returning, he asks Nigel to move out, but instinctively tries to make things better for himself. This realization sparks a desire to be a better person, but it’s a struggle. When he does improve, he’s so self-aware that it excites him. His journey will take longer than it might for a typical person,” he added with a laugh.
A Lesson in Patience
Isaac’s transformation is further complicated by his reunion with Patience (Mary Holland), a ghost from his past who once kidnapped him. Jones noted that as Isaac copes with his feelings, he tends to “take it out on those around him,” suggesting that part of his growth will involve learning to be “slightly less selfish.”
As Season 4 unfolds, viewers can expect exciting developments, including a Halloween episode and a Christmas special featuring Jay’s parents. Plus, McIver will be stepping behind the camera to direct an upcoming episode.
