In a heartfelt revelation, Donnie Wahlberg, known for his role as Danny Reagan on Blue Bloods, opened up about a touching gesture from co-star Tom Selleck that left him in tears on the final day of filming.
Wahlberg recalled that Tom, who plays his on-screen father Frank Reagan, made a rare appearance in the squad room during the last scenes. “He doesn’t come to the squad room ever—I don’t think he’s ever been there—but he came that day to watch us film our last scenes,” Wahlberg told TV Insider. The sight of Selleck’s emotional reaction struck a chord with him. “Seeing him there and the emotion on his face turned on the waterworks for me,” he admitted.
The actor described the last family dinner scene as “probably the single most emotional day on the Blue Bloods set in the history of the entire show.” Wahlberg has often expressed the deep bond he shares with Selleck, referring to him affectionately as “Dad.” He noted that their relationship has grown close over the years, saying, “He’s literally like, ‘Oh, hey, son, how are you doing today?’”
The camaraderie among the cast has been palpable throughout the series’ run. Bridget Moynahan, who plays Erin Reagan, also shared her bittersweet feelings about concluding the show after 14 seasons. She remarked, “It was a good run… we were a family on and off the screen,” emphasizing the strong friendships that formed over the years.
Blue Bloods is currently airing its final season, following CBS’s announcement of its cancellation back in May. Despite the disappointment from fans and cast, the legacy of the show and its close-knit cast will surely resonate with audiences long after the cameras stop rolling.
