Roma Roth, the creative mastermind behind the hit Netflix series Virgin River, is set to bring another of Robyn Carr’s beloved book series to life. This time, Roth will adapt Thunder Point, a nine-part saga that offers a fresh take on Carr’s signature blend of romance, drama, and small-town charm.
Unlike Virgin River and Sullivan’s Crossing, which both focus on women’s journeys and romantic adventures, Thunder Point is told from a male perspective. The series is centered around Hank Cooper, a man who arrives in the coastal town of Thunder Point for a friend’s funeral — only to discover that he’s inherited a beachfront property at the heart of a heated local conflict. As Hank becomes more entangled in the town’s drama, he finds himself drawn to Sarah Dupre, a captivating and mysterious local woman.
Roth, who has already successfully adapted Virgin River and Sullivan’s Crossing for television, expressed her excitement about the new project, emphasizing the series’ blend of mystery, romance, and drama. “Thunder Point has all the ingredients you need to successfully build a global hit series,” Roth shared. “It is certain to appeal to fans of both Sullivan’s Crossing and Virgin River, but this time the story is told from a male perspective.”
Carr herself was equally thrilled by the announcement, praising Roth’s previous work on her adaptations. “Roma is a gifted artist whose creative eye is a joy for viewers!” Carr said. “I just can’t wait to see who she casts for this fan-favorite small-town series.”
While the platform for Thunder Point’s premiere is still under wraps, the buzz around the series is already building. With Virgin River solidifying its place as one of Netflix’s longest-running dramas — and with season 7 officially confirmed ahead of the season 6 release — fans of Carr’s novels can look forward to even more captivating stories set in small-town America.
In addition to her adaptation work, Carr continues to delight readers with her latest release, The Friendship Club, which hit shelves earlier this year. With Thunder Point now in the works, it’s clear that Roma Roth’s successful partnership with Robyn Carr is far from over, and fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming years.
