Fire Country showrunner answers whether Morena Baccarin will be back for season 3

Will Mickey Fox return to Fire Country before her own spinoff? We have an answer!

Fans of Fire Country are eager to learn more about the upcoming third season, including if we’re going to see Mickey Fox again before her spinoff! Here’s what we know!

After establishing itself as one of CBS’s biggest new hits in 2022, Fire Country, like all network shows, was delayed thanks to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. It returned in February 2024 with a new season and quickly built on season 1’s plots.

With the show a hit, CBS naturally went to the old trend of planning a spinoff for it. They used the classic intro episode with “Alert the Sheriff” had a Three Rock inmate skipping camp right after a drug cartel’s helicopter dropped several thousand dollars in cash on the area. That brought in the local Sheriff’s department, including Sheriff’s Sergeant Mickey Fox, who just so happened to be the younger stepsister of Sharon (Diane Farr) and thus aunt for Bode (Max Thieriot).

Mickey’s boss was killed seemingly by that fugitive but it turned out to really be a corrupt cop. The episode focused on Mickey and Sharon overcoming some past issues (Mickey was the one who arrested Bode as a teen) as Mickey was ready to take up command as sheriff.

Playing the role of Mickey was Morena Baccarin, a TV veteran thanks to the cult sci-fi series Firefly, the Emmy-winning Showtime drama Homeland and Fox’s wild Batman show Gotham. She’s set to play Mickey as the lead in a spinoff Sheriff Country which will premiere in 2025. Yet, will fans see Mickey on the main Fire Country show first?

Will Mickey Fox be in Fire Country season 3?

Speaking to TVLine to promote season 3, showrunner Tia Napolitano first confirmed the show will pick up right where season 2 left off and answer whether Gabriela went through with her wedding to Diego :

“We are doing a direct pickup so everyone’s going to get all the answers that they were itching for at the end of our season 2 finale.”

Napolitano also confirmed that Mickey will be back on the show sometime in season 3 but didn’t share details on when or how. It’s likely the episode will serve as another setup for Sheriff Country and play again on the Mickey-Sharon dynamic. A big part of Mickey’s first episode was how she and Sharon had issues with Mickey being judgmental of Sharon raising Bode and determined not to make that mistake with her own daughter, Skye.

During an argument, Mickey was forced to confess that Skye was now in rehab. She summed up the irony that she’d tried to raise her right only to see her fall apart while Bode had turned his life around. It helped the sisters bond more.

Baccarin is a fine actress who fits Mickey, and it makes sense the writers are giving her another showcase before she moves into her own show. It’s also probable that the two series will do some crossover episodes and continue their momentum.

Thus, Fire Country fans can be assured we’ll be seeing Mickey on the main series along with her spinoff to continue a run for this sharp new character.
