After Learning Who Will Play Jay’s Parents in Ghosts Season 4, I’m Crossing My Fingers for One Specific Ghost Shenanigan

We’ve barely returned to Woodstone Mansion, but already there’s some exciting news about Ghosts Season 4 that has me looking forward to the rest of the year. As part of the Ghosts crew’s appearance at New York Comic Con, the show teased some fun updates, including the announcement of who will play Jay’s parents in the highly anticipated Christmas episode. And after hearing who’s been cast, there’s one specific ghostly shenanigan I’m really hoping will unfold when they visit Sam and Jay in the special holiday episodes.

Jay’s Parents Are Coming to Ghosts Season 4

The Christmas episode will be a special two-parter titled “A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 1” and “A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 2.” We’ll finally meet Jay’s parents, and the casting choices are already generating excitement. Sakina Jaffrey (known for Billions and Snowpiercer) will play Champa, Jay’s loving but slightly overbearing mother, and Bernard White (familiar from Silicon Valley) will play Mahesh, Jay’s father, who seems to have more respect for his son’s cooking skills but is still holding out hope that Jay will one day become an engineer.

Champa will definitely have her hands full with Sam, as the episode’s synopsis hints that she’ll have little patience for Jay’s wife, who she likely blames for Jay moving upstate. Mahesh, on the other hand, will at least try to be supportive of his son’s culinary pursuits—though his dreams of a more traditional career for Jay might lead to some tension. And of course, we’ll see the return of Jay’s sister Bela, played by Punam Patel, who’s appeared in previous seasons.

The Christmas chaos will not only come from the family dynamics but also from a “water heater mishap” that threatens to ruin the Arondekars’ holiday plans. If that weren’t enough, there’s a good chance that this festive family gathering will stir up some hilarious ghostly mayhem.

Why I’m Hoping for Some Possession Shenanigans

If I’m being honest, one of my absolute favorite moments on Ghosts was when Jay got possessed by Hetty. For anyone who’s seen it, you know exactly what I mean—Utkarsh Ambudkar’s hilarious impression of Rebecca Wisocky’s Hetty was a comedic goldmine. The setup to get a ghost into a living person’s body is always over-the-top (and often downright absurd). In Jay’s case, he was nearly electrocuted while changing a light bulb, and Hetty, in a bizarre twist of fate, took over his body.

The result? Utkarsh Ambudkar channeling Hetty with a fabulous accent, wild expressions, and lines that were so delightfully out of character for Jay. It was one of the funniest moments of the series for me, and it’s exactly what I want to see more of.

Now, if I could have my way, I’d love to see Jay’s parents caught up in this ghostly hijinks. Imagine Champa or Mahesh suddenly possessed by one of the Woodstone ghosts. The comedy potential is huge—whether it’s Mahesh having to channel a high-strung Hetty or Champa taking on the mannerisms of the mischievous Trevor, there’s so much fun to be had with these new characters interacting with the ghost crew. Plus, it would give Jay a whole new level of frustration and confusion trying to deal with his possessed parents, all while trying to salvage what’s left of their already chaotic holiday plans.

The setup for possession in Ghosts has always been delightfully ridiculous, and with the addition of Jay’s family, I’m hoping the show will lean into this slapstick potential. A mix of heartwarming family moments and classic Ghosts-style chaos would make for the perfect Christmas special, and I’m all in for watching that unfold.

In the end, whether or not Jay’s parents end up possessed, Ghosts has a knack for blending humor, heart, and ghostly antics into something truly special. But I have to admit, I’m crossing my fingers for a possessed-parent shenanigan or two in the mix. It’s bound to make for some unforgettable moments!
