Nicola Coughlan Shares Exciting Update on Bridgerton Season 4

Nicola Coughlan, beloved for her role in Bridgerton and Derry Girls, has shared a timely update on the highly anticipated fourth season of the hit Regency series, currently in production.

Speaking at the Time Next 100 event in New York City earlier in October, Coughlan gave fans a glimpse into her experience on set. “It’s quite nice to take a step back and let the new romantic leads take center stage,” she said. “We’ve been filming for about a month now, but I get to pop in and out, so I’m able to come to New York, which I couldn’t have done last year—it’s quite nice.”

Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, also expressed excitement for the upcoming season, praising the work of her co-stars, Luke Thompson (Benedict Bridgerton) and Yerin Ha (Sophie Baek). “It’s gonna be amazing,” she added. “Luke and Yerin are hard at work now. They’re having such a good time.”

Looking ahead, Coughlan was optimistic about the future of the series. “I’m sure the show will go on forever; there’s lots more love stories to be told,” she said.

Season 4 of Bridgerton will focus on Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) romantic journey, adapted from Julia Quinn’s third novel, An Offer from a Gentleman. Benedict embarks on a quest to find the mysterious “Lady in Silver,” whom he meets at a masquerade ball. He eventually discovers that she is Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), a woman of secret heritage.

Thompson teased the fairy-tale nature of the season, saying, “What’s striking about Season 4 is that it’s the struggle between a proper old-school fairy tale romance and the actual reality of the world.”

Netflix has also released a first look at Ha and Thompson together on set, along with an official synopsis. The season will dive into Benedict’s reluctance to settle down, despite seeing his older and younger brothers happily married. His world changes when he meets Sophie, and their love story begins to unfold.

Fans can expect Bridgerton Season 4 to bring another captivating romance to the screen, with Coughlan’s Penelope still very much a part of the Bridgerton family drama.
